Comments on the R3 Recaro Seats?

Hey guys,

I test drove the RX8 for the first time just last week, and I absolutely LOVEDDDD the car!! I remember seeing an R3 in a showroom one time and sat in the Recaro Seat, but felt that it was really snug and tight around my butt and thighs. I am 5'9" and around 32 waist size.

Has anyone (around my height and size) been having issues with the seats? I have read somewhere that it is quite uncomfortable, especially for the lower back - not enough lumber support?

I was wondering if anyone could possibly take me for a drive for me to experience it myself? Another forum member suggested that I can ask to see if anyone is willing to give me a ride in the car for me to experience - I also thought of possibly giving me the opportunity to test drive the car for like 5 minutes to experience it?

I know this is a weird request though.

Anyways, cheers!

Christopher

I'm 5'9, 175 lb, 34" waist. Love the seats in my R3. I am going to add some lumbar support though. I drove it VA to MI without any problems, aches, or pains. I do have a CG-Lock in it though which helped.

There is a massive RX-8 meet on April 29th. There maybe a few R3's showing up there. That would be a good opportunity for you to meet the others/make/friends, learn about the car, and if someone is feeling generous, maybe you will get a ride in their R3.

There is a thread on this if you're not aware.

I'm the same in height, waist is 34 and the fit is perfect.
The only time your going to want more room in the R3 seat is when your girl is on you

im 6'1, 185 lbs, and my r3 is the most comfortable car for me.

i want to get new seats but only reason is i want to find something lower and i sit a lil too high, but that is the only reason, they hold me great, my thighs dont get dug into just very comfortable even on long drives 3 hours +

I want to, but so far all of the dealerships I have called and asked about the R3 have had their R3 completely sold-out.

What is the CG-Lock? Can you post a couple pictures of what you did to your chair?

It sounds like most (if not all) of the people are showing an approval towards the Recaro seat, and nothing about it being too tight and uncomfortable!

I'm not an advertiser, so I don't want to post a link. Search this site and you'll find your answer.

It's a little clip that you can use to snug your seat belt up, and breaks the 2nd time you use it. I have no idea how that would improve your comfort in the seat. I would think the exact opposite. It's supposed to let you snug your self into the seat when you are driving aggressively without race seats or harnesses.
I've got 2 of the pieces of junk floating around my garage. (Won them at some events. But, one of them is broken.)

Anyway, enough rant and back to the original question. I desperately want a set of R3 seats. Never driven with them, but have test-sat in some people's cars at DGRR and in the dealership. I've got a 38" waist, but, I also like a snug seat. The stock GT seats are a little too wide for my preference.

Worst case, buy an R3, and if you don't like the seats, you'd be able to sell them no problem.

The only time I gripe about my seats are when its a long drive (i.e 1 hour +) - that's when the lack of lumbar support starts to become an issue for me at least.

.... But by that time you probably need to stop for gas anyways so you can get out and stretch your legs and lower back

oh, interesting! I don't think I would ever drive this car for 1+ hours, unless it is on a road trip, but I would very much like to go on road trips with this car. If this does become an issue, there are lumbar support add-ons that I can purchase to attach to this vehicle, correct? I know that is a dumb question, because I can just do some research, but I wanted to get someone's opinion on it.

Cheers

So couple of weeks later I finally got a chance to test drive the R3...and wow...the recaro seats actually came out to be REALLY comfy while I was driving!! =O!! I think the only thing I have to complain about is the location of the shifter. it is either I am sitting too close, or that I am just not use to it, and that I need to still let my body sink into the seating position, but I felt like I a little uncomfortable and ackward; reaching a bit far back) in order to grab a hold of the shifter **** and putting it into the next gear.

Other than that, I LOVED it!! it is just unfortunate that the vehicle is SOOO expensive......I know that there will eventually be a new rotary-powered car, but the R3 just looks amazing! There is just none like it...I wish I can buy it now...darn...*super depressed*...

Is your chest right up against steering wheel? Set the seat back so you are behind the shifter LOL.

Yeah not too sure about the seating position complaint you refer too. Im 6'2" and i have the seat adjusted to about and inch and half before all the way back. Very comfortable for me. What kind of car do you drive now? Alfa spider? <- (horrible shifter location)

haha, yeah~ it must just be my own personal seating position, cuz I tend to like to sit closer to the steering wheel, because I feel like I can move my arms more easily - kinda like the "race car driver" seating position? Or so I've heard. but I only had a bit of time to test drive it, so I will definitely have more time to find what the perfect seating position for me will be~ butttt..still no money to buy the vehicle...boo!!

You can / will find them incredibly cheap used. RX-8's don't hold their value at all (much to the dismay of current owners) you can gain from our loss :P

Pretty much wouldn't recommend you buy it new unless you plan to keep it forever... Mine's already more or less at 50% mark of its original value.

I rarely ever see a use R3 being sold. Maybe somewhere down the road I will find someone selling his/her used 2011 R3! I would then like to keep the car for as long as possible!

Mazda made my 2008, RX8 with a stupid loop back seat belt buckle which made it impossible to mount a CG-Lock to it.

Maybe the buckles are different in your 8, or maybe you figured a way to intall your G-Lock! Any chance you could post a pic?

Negative.

Most comfortable seats I've had besides the ones in my Speed3.

sweet!!! this gives me a boost of confidence in the R3!!

I just received a quote from an agent for a bi-weekly payment of $205/bi-weekly, for 96 months...hmmm...is that good??

I am going to ask for an insurance quote, but I am going to expect somewhere around $350-$450...hmmm...Hopefully I can get it around the $300 mark though :S...
