Lightbulb Clear Side Marker Questions

Sup All...haven't posted in quite a while. I'm going into 8 withdrawal (she is stored for the winter), and am looking at buying the clear side markers to install in the spring.

I've found a pair selling for about $65 CAD .... is that competitive? If anyone has any other (preferably online, and Canadian) sources for picking them up cheaper, please let me know.

Another couple of questions - the ones I am looking at are the clear covers only (ie. no wiring harness or bulbs) - Are there any issues disconnecting the factory wiring and bulb and plugging them into the "clear cover only" kit? Also, and more importantly, is the stock bulb for these side markers orange? (if it isn't, and is clear...then they will look horrible, not to mention illegal).

Thanks all....miss my 8 like crazy right now!

DB

I think that's the cheapest price I've seen, (54 USD) I think RX8garage.net is in the same range. Where did you see this price?

We ordered ours for approx $37 for each side that also included the amber light bulb.

Ordered out of Edmonton with Canzoomer = Quick Delivery.

Yea ... I recommend Canzoomer but I ended up getting it off ebay. There was some Canadian dude in Toronto auctioning it off. I got it for $81Cdn including shipping. I think his screen name is "yokohamabay".

"yokohamabay" is who I am looking at, but he's just replied to my inquiry indicating it doesn't come with an Amber bulb.

Blue Frenzy: where did you source your amber bulb (I'm assuming you did) or is the stock bulb amber?

Thx.

You probably won't like the look of the amber bulb with the clear lenses. If you're going to spend the money on the clear lenses, you should look at getting a chromed bulb that glows amber or LED's. I tried an LED and it was fine although you could see the yellow plastic base. I switched to Vision Bulbs Silver Xtreme chromed bulbs (www.visionbulbs.com). They compliment the clear lenses nicely as they are invisible when they are not lit and glow amber so they're legal.

Talk to Sean Damien there and give him my name as a reference (Bruce Scott). See what kind of deal you can get from him. His phone number is (416) 409-4299 and his e-mail address is seandamien@visionbulbs.com. Good luck.

Hey deep blue, I'm using the stock white bulb. I'm considering hyperwhite LEDs. I know it's all illegal and stuff but I'll take the risk.

But like what Broose said, to be on the safe side, go with the chromed bulb.

Hi Bruce....thanks for that info. Out of curiosity, what did you end up paying for them? Also - do you know the specific model #?

You never did show me pics of your 8 after you checked out my accessories! Would love to see how she looks now.

Cheers.

I think I answered this one myself - from that Vision Bulbs site, looks like model "194" lights. Very cool, I will order a pair.

Bruce - did you change out any other bulbs on your car for what he has on sale? I'm thinking of changing the stock fogs as they are a little too yellow/orangy for my taste.

Deep Blue - I ended up changing my side marker bulbs as well as my front & rear signal bulbs to Silver Xtremes. I also got the interior "Xenon" kit and like it too. The interior has a much cooler tone to it as opposed to the harsh stock lights. It's not as bright, again just kind of a cool bluish hue.

The trunk light I didn't like (too dim). I added a space tire kit since anyway which blocks the light so it doesn't really matter now. I never changed the license plate bulb since I figured it may be too dim and I didn't want to give a cop any reason to pull me over.

I paid $75 US for all the bulbs. When you contact Sean, reference my name and the RX-8 Club web site and I'm sure he'll look after you.

I know they were working on a fog light bulb for the RX-8 that would more closely match the Xenon headlights. Ask him about that when you contact him and let me know what his response is.

bulbs

just for discussion sake, those folks in Ontario are OK with white bulbs in the corner markers (not turn signals).

I asked a friend who is an OPP officer here and he said Amber or White in ontario is fine. It's the turn signal indicators that they get strict about.

I ordered my clear corners last year and they came with stealth (chrome) amber bulbs -- I since swapped them out with chrome/xtreme white bulbs (look a hell of a lot better through the clear lens).
