Check out this months issue of Modified Mag....

Page 74 is the first article for Modified's Project RX-8 where I'm building/porting their engine.

Lots more technical info and the entire engine build process in the up-coming issues.

Go buy it!

Edit: Its the May 2011 issue btw!

Yeah I bet you searched real hard for an answer.

Porting is quite synanymous with rotaries

search was set on posts instead of threads. Im all good now:)

5 Attachment(s)
Here are some pics of ported Rotaries I've done over the years. **these are not Renesis engines**

Compare stock FC T2 port to Uber Port

Here is the outline of how much material is removed

Attachment 245871

This was a custom made Bridge Port I came up with for an FC turbo block using RX-8 rotors, the bridge port needed to be located very close to the coolant seal groove.

Attachment 245872

Brand new ported FD iron

Attachment 245873

Full FD engine ported, primary iron on the right, secondaries to the left.

Congrats on the exposure Joe. I'll make a point to pick it up. I've been following the project since he posted about it.

If I get a chance to pick up a copy of Modified on the way to DGRR will you autograph it for me?
... and one of those porting pictures looked kind of familiar...

Its a great article, Joe. You do some great work! Congrats.

Joe, does the renesis have the little rubber "erasers" in the corner seals like the old 13b's?

( IF they do not have the lil rubber thingy)
I imagine you used the RB templates, if so, can you port out to around half the cornerseal like the ol schools, or is there some limit from going crazy on them?

Ive got a spare engine I might do over the winter......

R.P.M. 04-28-2011 10:22 PM

Nope no rubber eraser thingys in the Renesis, they have a solid plug type deal instead. I'll take pictures next week when I'm back at the shop.

The porting templates I am using for the Modified engine build are from Racing Beat, I dont have enough experience porting the Renny engine yet to start tackling my own porting just yet. So for now, I'll folow Racing Beat's guidlines and see how it goes.

We have had posts before about modifying engines, beware when you make one change you must make a host of others. When you change the internal airflow of an engine you must also change fuel and airflow into the engine, ignition timing etc etc. In the old days it was easy, you changed the timing with your adjustment of your distibutor and changed the jets in the carburetor. Now its a little more complicated. Racing Beat already knows this!

Oh sweet the MoTeC is free from racing beat! Carbs are for dinosaurs.
