Well boys (and girls) were out in the quarter finals

ultimately, team canada didnt play as a team, and didnt skate hard enough to get the victory.

I guess we have to look towards home ice in 2010.

they should have picked a few of the younger guys for the team...ones that were hungry!

It's shockingly errie how much Team Canada looked like the Leafs out there! It's like they're skating with 50 lbs bags dragging behind them! Fat Quinn's gotta go ... his glory days are over!

Can't believe the number of num-nuts who're braying to the media about how these guys gave their all and should be respected. We've witnessed a passing of the torch from the old guard like Gretzky to whatever is in place in 2010. And a big huge thank you to a goon like Bertuzzi who made this trip memorable. Go punch out some drywall in your hotel room you horse. And eat more onions so we get the real tears when you hit the media, Vancouver Valerie.

Well what happened to the team?
I was telling my brother that it was the big ice surface and the good defence played by the other teams.
Some guy on CBC was saying it was the lock out and these guys were not 100% for playing so many games in so little time.
My brother countered saying we've won the gold on international ice before so that shouldn't be a problem. But I saw how they were on the power play and how they couldn't get any speed going.
Some of the players they picked made you wonder! Bertuzzi, Iggy, and well I just can't say Smyth (he had his role) over top scorers such as spezza, stall, tanguay, and maybe crosby (to immature in my eyes). I know that's not a whole team, but I think it would've made a difference... maybe. Maybe it was the coaching? not adapting to the styles of the other teams, or to the large ice surface.
Any thoughts?

It has nothing to do with the players they picked, the ice surface ... and everything to do with how they played as a team! What we saw were 26 individuals out there who obviously don't know how to play together! Talent is one part but playing good as a team often counters a lack of talent! Just take a look at the World Juniors ... not that most talent, but everyone played a role which is something you can't say for the Olympic team! Die Quinn Die!

Yeah Iggy was a top scorer last season and everyone knows he's a late bloomer during each season. He was a big part in the Flames (almost) winning the Cup, and was a big part of Canada's 2002 Olympic Gold, so I can't believe someone would say he shouldn't be there.

Pronger? Bertuzzi? Nash? There's a few that I don't think deserved a chance. Why pick Nash when Spezza/Staal are the same age but have way more points this season? That sure confused the hell out of me.

Anyways, I think Sutter should get the next chance to coach the team. He's basically responsible for turning Calgary around and making them into an effective playoff team, and we've all seen how good his brother is with the Juniors.

 

But most of these guys are the same guys from the 02 gold medal team. I think you have a point, maybe it was all these little things and not just one big problem. I think the coaching staff didn't adapt, team chemistry wasn't there, some players shouldn't of been there, no one had specific roles?
I'm not picking on bert about the whole Moore incident, I'm not sure if he should've been on the team due to his play so far. (Bert will never live down his actions, whether it be from the Moore incident or the bad penalty in the Russia game)

As for Pronger, he is having an excellent year with the oilers, I did see him struggle throughout the tournament, as did many players

Ya i guess your right about Iggy. But man he has to pick it up. It is almost getting too late about now.

As for Nash, he has provided point production for the lowly bluejackets. I would like to see where the jackets/Nash would be now if he were healthy for most of the year.

 

I think that the game has significantly changed now, and is more biased towards the young fast teams, like russia. We built our team on a basis for rough and tough D men, and crash the net forwards in the front, a strategy that works quite well in 2002, but since penalties are alot more strict now, and the game has transformed after the lockout, adjustments had to be made. The european teams are faster and canada used to push them around because they could. Now, canada cant play that way anymore, and failed to adjust to the new hockey. I say, Put seom more young blood up front, and replace the likes of draper, doan, betruzzi, and maybe you would have had a better chance at competing with guys like ovetchkin, malkin, kovalev, etc. I think it was mainly a bad miscalculation on the choice of the team, and then mis coaching as to how to play. I think they didnt look like a team, and were confused because Quinn tried to coach them the same way he did in 2002, which is outdated to the way all of these players have played for the last 3/4 of a season.

 

Yeah but Aki Berg is the star of Finland but he plays like crap for us

 

there is one good thing....the Leafs are going to miss the playoffs!!
