Have you had your CAT replaced? get underneath the car when cool, and bang the cat, and the exhaust pipes with a rubber mallet.

Subscribed, curious as to what the issue is. Sounds like somthing caught in your cat or muffler.

When my cat went I had the same noise eventually it will pass through the exhaust but you are better taking it off and cleaning it out.
The Cat is made of thin honeycomb and if it overheats it breaks down and you get lots of shards that end up in your exhaust. You will probably hear it under heavy breaking too as the shards move forward.

im surprised if you cat is done for, the CEL didnt come one (P420), im on my 3rd cat, and Ive never had that sound happen to me. Regardless get it checked sooner than later because your car is an 04, meaning your warrenty is almost up.

update

Okay i just got back from mazda and they told me it is the cat. they said that my cat is in bad condition and needs to be replaced. But apparently since it passed emissions they are not going to replace it. Sorta rattled about that, cause its under warranty so it should be covered... :S

Try another dealership, it obviously needs to be replaced.

Coming late to the party.
Good to hear, thanks for updating us.

How about letting us know which Mazda Dealer it was you went to the first time and where you went the second time.

Just so we know

i went to achillies mazda in milton yesterday, and i went back there this morning and argued with them. everything worked out so im pretty happy. they kept telling me my warranty was expired even though i have a year left. they couldn't divide 96 months by 12 ... they said it came out to 7 years ... unbelievable
