Calgary Fall Meet '07

Anyone want to meet up before the snow arrives? It'll be a great time to get to know your fellow 8 owners in Calgary! (And before some of us sell our 8s...)

Date: Sunday, October 7th
Place: North Glenmore Park followed by a short cruise to Bragg Creek
Time: 1:00pm

All the dates sound okay to me, except maybe the September one, since I have an assignment due the Monday. As long as it's before October 17th (when I return my car to Mazda =[ ) I'll try my best to make it out, since I want to attend at least one meet before I give up my 8.

Ok, so it looks like its going to be on a Sunday. Now the big question is where do we meet and what can we do? My mind is blank right now. Although I'd like to get a quick drive out to somewhere. Maybe Cochrane for a bite to eat?

I can't say for sure if I can make it. I'm in the middle of a huge project right now with a very tight deadline.

^^^ Hey you ride bikes too? What kind did/are you getting? Are you doing a road test or lot test? I first failed the lot test because of that stupid straight line test (pylons were too close together and barely allowed the wheels to pass through). The road test is much easier.

Oh this Sunday won't work for me either.

Why is it I cant figure out the multi quote thing.. HELLLP!

Frenzy.. yes I am a noob rider.. Suzuki Boulevard M50.. its a cruiser but with a small front fender and a bobtail.. I like it. I'm not into the big hog look, and surprisingly not a crotch rocket fan (other than the terrifying Suzuki GSXR!) so this worked out well. I like it alot. I am doing both tests, kind of.. took a safety course and didnt do so well, went for a redo and they didnt know I was coming.. so much for that. Have several hundred km of exp now, thinking the road test is my best bet. My problem is the circle in the lot test. Damn circle!
What are you riding? Been riding long? Hows rush hour on a bike..

Slowlude.. Oct 7 does sound better for me. Might be out of province for a funeral this weekend, not sure at this point.. might also be posting to pawn off some tix to Def Leppard Sunday night if thats the case..

Whatever works for you guys!

The Suzuki M50 is a nice bike! I think your best bet is the road test because they probably won't make you do the circle test (unless the tester is really ****). The most that they would make you do is the hill start. As long as you don't fall over and ride like a maniac, I'm certain you will pass (make sure you shoulder check all the freaking time --> even when riding normally because you never know when some minivan "forgets" to check for oncoming traffic).

I've been riding since the mid90's. I use to ride a Yamaha FZR. Don't have a bike at the moment and actually looking to find another old school FZR (nostalgia). Rush hour on bike is sucky (ie exhaust fumes). The enviromental zealots should promote more bikes on the road because even the biggest gas guzzling bike gets equal to or more mileage than the "green" cars.

I am actually really good at the hill start.. so bonus for me I guess! Thanks for the tips, specially the shoulder check, its amazing how many times I have to remind myself. Second nature in a car is not second nature on a bike. Lesson learned, #1.

I'm with you on the environment thing. Which is why I want to learn to ride. I figure combined fuel economy of the bike and the 8 is at worst 35mpg. So I can live with that. LOL!

Would be cool if you found yourself another FZR.. nostalgia is a good thing.
So back on topic (sorry for steering you all wrong) Frenzy you coming to this meet?

I'll be coming to the meet for sure. Soooo ... did we finalize the location yet? Slowlude, you're the boss of the thread ... find us a place! I was thinking Glenmore park would be great because there's a nice pizza place right before you enter the park (I pass it all the time but can never remember the name)

Ok. Oct 7th, 1:00pm at North Glenmore Park (at the end of Crowchild Tr. SW), we'll take some pictures, chat a bit, followed by a short cruise to Bragg Creek and get some coffee at that strip mall thingy. How's dat?

Sure. Bragg Creek is SW of the City. We'll take Highway 8 (by Westhills) and turn left on HWY 22. The drive will probably be 15-20 min. Very short!
