Brake Squeel

I noticed this weekend that my brakes are sqeeling a little.

At 6000 km this can't be normal.

I see a US service Bulletin on brake noise but what about us here in Canada.

Anyone have this issue and get it looked after?

I replaced my stock pads with aftermarket, better pads.
The stock ones did squeel pretty bad, but after I destroyed them doing 3 schools and a couple of track days, I figured they didn't owe me anything.

I believe it applies in Canada. I took mine in. It had about 15,000 kms on it at the time. They replaced the front pads with no questions asked. I went to Scarboro Mazda...good people there.

Had mine replaced at my 8,000km service with no fuss. Mine are starting to squeel again, going to wait a bit and see if I can get another replacement if they get worse. I'm also going to rant a bit about the rusty rotors too, looks pretty bad.

Actually, could solve both problems and buy the Brembo brakes and rotors for a meere $1500US a pair . Gee, let me think, Brembo's all around or a new turbo?! hmmm... given what my wifes reaction would be I think I'll pass on both and live to tell about it.

Just had mine replaced on Friday, no questions asked, they're fine now. Hopefully they stay like that.

No chance. The squeeling comes back after 3,000-4,000KM. Same **** as before except a lot less brake dust .

Mine started around 4000mi or so. The TSB says Mazda NORTH AMERICAN operations on it, not US, and says the vehicles it covers are RX-8's with 18inch wheels with VIN's lower than JM1FE*****145826

It's all good! I just needed an excuse to leave this opressive heat in FL and go to Canada for a bit!

Well that sucks that the squeal comes back. At least there is less brake dust from them. :D

I used a wheel polish on my rims and since then have found that the brake dust doesn't stick to the rims as much as it used to. They also clean up easier.

My brakes just started squealing last week, have 18,000 kms on the car now. It's so embarrassing coming to a light, or pulling up somewhere, and you hear this huge brake squeal coming out from an RX-8

I got my brakes changed 4 times.

7's and 8's are notorious for brake noise

First reported for mine at about 8,000km - rear pads chamfered. Still squealing at 16,000, called ahead of the service, spoke about the TSB and got them to ensure they had the new front pads. New front pads fitted - squeal was back within a week. Tomorrow, the front rotors are being replaced. That might do it, or it only might last for a couple of months.

Applause for the service folk at Airport Mazda, though. They are certainly trying to address the problem.
