BMW Trillium Shannonville Full Track School - June 26-27th

Since Shannonville seems to be the track of choice on this forum, perhaps there is interest in this. Good value, good instruction and generally allot of fun.

I just did two days at Mosport with Trillium, and had a great time, this was my first time in the rain on the big track (and I was on slicks) learned allot and thankfully the car is still in one piece for Mid Ohio. We had 5 modified GT-Rs show up, as well as the usual blend of M3s, 997 GT3s and race cars. Was very impressed with the GT-Rs, Mosport seems to suit that car well, amazingly quickly even in the rain.

Generally, highly recommended for people interested in improving their skills. Here are the details:

Shannonville Advanced Driver Training

When: June 26th, 2010 8:00 AM through June 27th, 2010 6:00 PM
Location:
Shannonville Motorsport Park, Old Highway 2
Shannonville, ON

EDIT: SCHOOL IS LIMITED TO 45 Student - 15 per run group

Cost: $350 + GST for Sat/Sun (Includes Saturday Night Dinner)

STUDENTS REGISTER HERE: http://trillium-bmwclub.ca/civicrm/e...?reset=1&id=17

Details:
With plenty of challenging curves, and an excellent line of sight, Shannonville's track wants for nothing in terms of excitement and learning.

For questions about this or other track events, contact our club Registrar, Stuart Sherman, at stuart.sherman [at] trilllium-bmwclub.ca.

P.S.

I am at Mid Ohio from May 27-30 with Northern Ohio BMW CCA if anyone wants to join there is probably still room, contact Scott Jancura: scottjancura [at] gmail.com

Just did the same at Calabogie for a lot more, but I might be up for this one because he price is so good and all the track time I get with instruction can only help. Are you going or just posting the event?

Every make and model is welcome. Usually the June school sells out (but normally it is at Mosport). I suspect this one will sell out as well, so I would recommend booking no later than 3 weeks before the event.

Were you at the May 10th event at Calabogie with BMW Ottawa club?

Nope, Saturday, April 24th and the weather was great, sunny and a high of 24C. My Instructor Phil was awesome and scared the crap out of me every time he drove. Worth every dime I learned a lot but need a lot more practice and training, so I figure I get both with this for a great price. Any idea how many car will attend?

P.S. PM me when you book, my wife said she'd pay for me as a belated birthday gift. See some wives understand our need for thrill seeking (We only live once)

I think they will have around 50 students in 3 run groups. They should have exercises on slalom as well as the skid pad and in classroom instruction.

At Mosport they also usually do a track walk om Saturday which is pretty useful, don't know if they will do it at Shannonville as the track is flat.

I am hoping to attend but it depends on my work schedule as I will be driving from Windsor, I will pm you once I book.

Getting your other side on board is always a positive.

Calabogie was only two group, 10 including me in beginners, and maybe another 15 in advanced that's probably why it is more money. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, lots of track time.
Well let me know, it would be nice to have another club member at these things.

^ From what I understand Calabogie while being a fantastic place is having trouble in the booking dept. Some organizers charge more (6th Gear) but cap the number of people and allow allot more track time but I doubt that was the case at your Calabogie event.

Me and a friend (non RX-8) are talking about going back in the fall. If your interested we'll talk at Shannonville. I went thru Rob Martin and En-Track Experience Inc. not 6th Gear. If I had to chose between Mosport and Calabogie, Calabogie would win hands down.

I have never been to Calabogie but I have spoken to a few people that have. The track probably suits the nature of the rx8 better than Mosport. A friend with an Elise stated that he would probably choose Calabogie as his home track over Mosport.

BUT Mosport is a very special place, the fastest track in North America that requires allot of commitment from the driver, leaves little margin for error but provides great exhilaration. I love corners 2 & 4. 2 alone is worth the price of admission.

I have only been to two big tracks - Mosport and Mid Ohio (I have been to Shannonville, DDT and some other Aerodrom but would not put them in the same sentence as Mosport) and while Mid Ohio is probably a bit more technical and a bit more challenging to get right, I would choose Mosport just due to the thrill that it offers.

I am hesitant about Calabogie as I don't know how many times I can make it out there, so I don't feel like spending a day learning the track if I am not going to go to it with some regularity.

Yes, I know what you mean, even by the end of the day I was just figuring out the line with any real speed, but that's why I have to go back. Only on Mosport main track once with the club last summer for lunch time lapping, my favorites were 4, 5a,b,c. This was the start of my red fever, but would love to try it again.

I am really interested in this... do you really have to register with the club to come to the school? They seem to want an extra $60 for club membership...

The club is run by volunteers and they do not make any money of the events.
Over the course of the week end every person involved donates their time and work. They do put allot of effort into organizing well run events.

The fees is just for running the club. In return to your membership you can participate in all of club events, which include a winter karting league, driving schools, auto cross and other things. You can contact Trillium for more details on the benefits of a membership.

I am a member of both the USA and Canadian BMW Clubs since I do driving events on both sides of the border.

For more info go to: http://trillium-bmwclub.ca/

Yea I get that, but I am in Ottawa and I have my own club affiliation out here since I do most of my events here (MCO).

I don't think I would get much use out of a GTA club membership as I do very few events down there.

Contact them, I am not sure what the rule is if you are a member in Ottawa.
Trillium does Mosport events which are attended by students and instructors from the Ottawa club (as well as people from the US and other parts of Canada).

^ I am glad things worked out for you. I guess I have to sign up as well since we now have a few rx8 people going.

I sent a pm to one of the BMW Club members about accommodations at Shonnonville. I know there is a Best Western at Belleville. I am thinking about saving money and camping at the track.

I will let you know once I hear back.

Missed that post, the Salom River Motel looks like a class joint. I may just skip the driving and chill there for the weekend.
