Well, here we are again for the second year. While there were no real exciting launches from Mazda this year, our beloved RX-8 was one of three finalists out of 17 cras for North American International Auto Show CAR OF THE YEAR.. The other two finaalists were the Cadillac CLX, buiilt on the Corvette chasis and the Toyota Priuswhich is an advanced production version of a Hybrid car.
As we waited for the announcement, I stood beside Jim O'Sulivan, President of Mazda North American Operations. We kept our fingers crossed, but... the Toyota just edged out the RX-8 which apparently finished second. This is still a great honor as thee were literally hundreds of cars initially considered for this prestigious award.
On the Mazda show floor is a Hydrogen-Powered RX-8, two new models of the Mazda6, a 5-door hatchback and a station wagon and two versions of the new Mazda3. Additionally, the Mazdaspeed Miata was shown with prices in the $25,000. to $26000 range, depanding on interior slection. When compared to previous Special Edition models of the Miata, this seems like quite a bargain.
If we see any other interesting sruff over the next couple of days, we will post some pictures. That's it for now.
