The blue is a smidge lighter than it shows on this picture. It's more like how it is on the right side. But the picture still shows how the color will change with the shape.

I was thinking about the green until I saw the titanium :D

My first choice of yellow looks horrible in this picture (is it just lighting or is the greenish cast real). Thankfully the red, blue and titanium look stunning.

It's just hard to tell when they're not on the car. The yellow is basically carried over from the prototype (I believe). That and how different the Titanium Grey sample looks from the car pictures should show how much it could change.

I think the red and blue are showing up much darker (which I prefer) than they will actually appear. shame though.

yeah, i think the titanium grey (which, to me, looks a WHOLE lot more like an iron grey, and the titanium is just a name) is certainly the sharpest colour, however boring ;) i think if it was closer to black, like that old grey FC colour, i can't remember the name... brilliant black or something, i'd like it better...

red and blue are simply breathtaking, the green is a nice green, but i think this car deserves something with a little more flair... just a little...

as for that yellow, i don't know WHAT happened there... i really hope that it's a whole lot closer to Competition Yellow in hue than it appears in that picture...

Does this blue look like the blue on the X-men RX-8?

i think rotarynews (Dan) said that they were very similar, but different... suppost to be purple metalic flecks in the "Mutant Blue" that the X-Men RX-8 is wrapped in...

Hi all:

They are going to have three colors tomorrow but I don't know which ones. I believe one is Titanium, one red and one ???.

boo did you see the red one at the ford display? when they unveiled the 427 concept it was to the left of the stage.

Im a little confused here. Is the U.S. getting 2 reds?? The cars that have recently been all over the press have been a more candy red, while the one shown on at the ford display AND on the color wall appears to be darker. I no that it might look darker because of the camera but still they look like two completly different colors.

I attached the color "poster" that we're expecting to get in North America. Note how much lighter the blue on this picture looks in comparison to the "Xmen blue". Also note that Boowana did not find the "black" or "silver" on the "color wall", so I don't think that the samples that I posted is a complete list.

Of course, some of this will be announced "fer sure" tomorrow.

actually, film has more to do with it, and considering the media that would have been chosen (for the magazine shoots) and what i know Boo is using, it would more than make up for the colour discrepency.

for high speed photography, even in really bright light (outside) in the magazine shoots, these guys aren't going to try and get the stops just right so it's perfectly in focus, they're going to use a fast film, and crank 'er down to f/22 for sure... so they're probably using an ISO 800 or MAYBE ISO 400... if you don't know much about photography, i'll tell you this: the AgI crystals on the faster film react faster with the light, but their dyes are less brilliant, and have a far lower contrast than slow reacting crystals...
i've tried a roll or two of Fuji Velvia, which is ISO 50 slide film, and the colour that comes off of it is more real than reality... the high speed film that the mags would be using really flattens tones, and doesn't pick up so much detail (fairly grainy stuff)

anyhoo, Boo is using a digital cam (i can't remember what it was... wild guess: a Fuji Finepix or a Nikon??? god, i really can't remember), which has really hit-or-miss colour quality, depending on the light, the flash used, and has stuff like auto-shutter, auto-apature (f-stops), auto-white-balance, auto-strobe flash... so, this could easily make up for the differences in colour...

that being said, there's no reason to believe Mazda would use production paint colours on the mules and prototypes, right?? :)

god damn wakeech you sure do know your stuff. So which picture do you think is closer to what we will be getting? I am assuming the one on the wall because of the better picture quality am I correct?

I really really really hope its either a sunglow orange color or a pearlized eggshell color.

its strange how there is that white chopped-out area of the color poster pic on this thread. was it a sample of the "snowflake white pearl mica" that is listed on page 42 of mazda's presskit.pdf file from http://www.media.mazda.com/press_inf...lish/text.html ? id be pretty interested in the white depending on what it looks like. anyone know why it's missing from the poster?

I put a $500 deposit down in Santa Monica last Tuesday. The dealer said they would not even cash the check. The internet guy wasn't in so I didn't get info on a final price. I chose green/chapperal.

Where the hell in Santa Monica is the dealer? I work in Santa Monica and never knew there was one.

Well I built up the Winning Blue car w/ leather. I'm just disappointed that I don't get a choice of any two color leather options with the blue :(, wish they would have had a black/blue leather option. I also really considered black with black/red leather, but my car now is black and it is a pain to maintain.

The Canadian options have not been released as of yet, but I suspect that white will not be offered to Canada either. This is a little suppressing to me because my understanding is that white is the most popular colour here.

Does anyone know what the most popular colour in the States is?

Yea, silver is a pretty popular colour here also. I believe that it is the second most popular colour here next to white, but I am not positive about that. Heck, I've even owned three silver coloured cars myself. But the rx8 will be ordered in yellow; I've never owned a yellow vehicle before and should show the lines of the car well. :D

Do you know why they are forecasting it to be? I haven't seen any pictures of it in the real world, so I'm still undecided on it. I think the silver would look great in a somewhat dark shade with hints of black in it. Kind of like an Oakland Raiders helmet or the VW beetle silver (though its not a car for me..maybe be a girlfriend though!) or even the silver on the mazdaspeed rx8 we have all seen.

How would you describe the sunlight silver? Is it very light? I know you said the medium colors show the car's lines the best...would you consider the sunlight silver to be a medium or a light color?

Do you think the pearl white will be offered here in the states next year?

I was hoping to see it in that color too - that would have been my first choice. Had to settle for Titanium, which I'm psyched about if it looks as good as in the NAIAS pix.

Is the RX-8 Titanium the same color as the M6 Titanium.

I went to the Mazda dealer today and I was going to put in my order for the RX-8 Titanium 6M. The sales person showed me a M6 on the lot that was Titanium. Is was very dark and does not look like the Titanium on hte RX-8 in the pictures on this site.

The dealer said they are the same.

Is this true?

I think that the titanium for the RX-8 is slightly different than the one on the 6- at least, they weren't listed under the same paint chips on the wall at Detroit.

I expect the blue to not be dissimilar to the blue that Maglites are produced in. I saw a small sporty Toyota in that colour today and it looked perfect. Having just investigated the Toyota site (it wasn't an MR2 though) I can reveal it as Lagoon Blue.

Mazda Makes Extreme Move with RX-8 Motorsport Concept








The Mazda RX8 Motorsport Concept
was unveiled by singer Guy Sebastian
at the Australian International Motor Show.

Mazda Australia today unveiled the first of its “extreme cars”, a turbocharged RX-8 Motorsport Concept, at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. And removing the cover was none other than Guy Sebastian, one of the nations favourite singers.

The “extreme” RX-8, which was conceived by Mazda Australia’s motor sport manager Allan Horsley, is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled rotary engine that is expected to develop about 270 kilowatts of power and close to 350Nm of torque.

The car also features 19-inch wheels and tyres, a high performance racing brake package, retuned suspension and Mazdaspeed body kit parts for a more aggressive look.

Mazda Australia’s “extreme car” programme was prompted by new managing director, Doug Dickson.

“The idea of this programme is to challenge our corporate imagination and in this case we have developed a faster, more aggressive, motor sport version of the RX-8”, Dickson said.

“This one-off concept further demonstrates the strength, integrity and ability of the production RX-8 because the fundamentals of this concept remain true to the standard car”.

Motor sport manager, Allan Horsley, said: “The RX-8 Motorsport Concept was a must do challenge for us and thanks to the engineering sophistication of the production car it all came together in just a few months.

“We plan to give some of the motoring media with racing experience the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of our labour at a track day drive event”.

Future Mazda “extreme car” projects will not necessarily focus on the company’s class-leading sports cars or on its award-winning passenger models.

“The idea behind ‘extreme cars’ is not just added acceleration and all that goes with that formula. An idea could involve any present Mazda model.

We have, for example, discussed an extreme B Series, that would showcase its comfort, refinement and off-road ability”, Dickson said.

The RX-8 Motorsport Concept makes its intentions known with an aggressive looking Mazdaspeed nose with integrated spoiler and big air intake as well as a large and adjustable Mazdaspeed rear wing.

Velocity Red mica metallic paint and attention grabbing white “GT stripes” run along the car’s sides, while bonnet flutes further hint at the car’s added performance and aid under bonnet cooling.

Riding on striking white-painted, 19x8-inch alloy wheels, the concept features different tyre sizes front and rear. 235/35 tyres are used on the front wheels and larger 255/35 tyres on the rear, helping deliver the concept’s prodigious power and torque to the road. The production RX-8 boasts 18x8 alloy wheels and 225/45 tyres.

A centre-mounted rotary-shaped brake lamp completes the strong visual statement made by the RX-8 Motorsport Concept.

The car’s revised suspension, which drops the ride height by 25mm, improves the standard car’s class leading dynamics and adds to the concept’s visual impact.

Suspension modifications focus on new specification, stiffer Eibach springs that help improve the already impressive grip offered by the RX-8’s multi-link front and rear suspension.

The revised suspension settings, which help reduce body roll, further sharpen responses from the car’s electric-driven rack and pinion steering.

Promising considerably more power and torque than the standard car, the RX-8 Motorsport Concept features a Renesis rotary engine complete with a water cooled Garret turbocharger running 7.5lbs of boost pressure and a large air-to-air intercooler.

These modifications and a re-programmed Power Control Module that maximises the engine’s efficiency are expected to boost power by more than 52 per cent over the production RX-8.

The engine’s pulling power, or torque, receives a substantial boost over a wide rev band, with it peaking about 350Nm, an increase of almost 65 per cent over the road car.

Using a relatively small and low-boost turbo ensures good throttle response and maintains the free-revving nature of the road car’s normally aspirated rotary engine.

The RX-8 Motorsport Concept’s compression ratio and redline are unaffected, allowing the turbo engine to race to 9000rpm.

A larger, free-breathing exhaust system ensures maximum power gain while a new muffler also aids breathing and delivers a throatier, more purposeful exhaust note.

Braking is by an Alcon six piston racing system that features 335mm vented and grooved discs. Similar systems are used in world rally, Japanese GT, V8 Supercar and NASCAR racing.

Other mechanical upgrades include a smaller but more powerful battery, while a larger core radiator ensures the engine runs within its ideal temperature range under all conditions.

The RX-8 Motorsport Concept shares Mazda’s new-look Australian International Motor Show stand with the Ibuki near future concept roadster, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. Mazda will also showcase its full range of new generation cars - the Mazda 2, Mazda 3 and Mazda 6.

The Australian International Motor Show at Darling Harbour, Sydney, is open from 7th October to 17th October 2004.
