Edit: Australian 40th Anniversary RX-8's will also come with a rear spoiler.

The total number of Anniversary RX-8's is up on previous special editions as these cars will be all that's available until the new RX-8 arrives in late April/early May 2008....
The 40th Anniversary car is on the MA website now.

Leather pack spec, sunroof std, spoiler std, new wheels etc....$55K and change (plus on-roads).

Funny that all the pictures avoid showing the exclusive "sporty rear spoiler".

Especially in the 'Exterior' section where the site designers went to great lengths to cut the car's photo just millimetres from where the spoiler would of started.

It has what they call a Super LSD!

I really like the Bilstein shocks ... that's a good improvement over the budget **** they gave us standard before. I wouldn't mind test driving one to see how it fares in comparison to the old leather pack.

Well, if you don't like the series II model, here's your chance to get the last of series I.

Some of the changes seem like a good thing but it's 80% marketing from what I can see...

Well, I see no reason to get another series 1.

But I do have a question: do we have a super lsd on our cars too?

I believe the 40th Anniversary edition will be in oz at the end of January , the version 2 some time in July .

Why would anyone buy the 40th Anniversary knowing that theres a version 2 coming in 5 months is anyones guess

Because they really want an RX8 and it's the cheapest way to get it with plastic bits attached?

... and then people with brains will look at them funny, walk away and buy an RX8 without the badge on it.

One thing could be a better price...I somehow think V2 will be $10K more than the current....V2 may also have some teething problems. Time will tell....

I tell you something now if the Series 2 is $10K more than the Series 1, they will stall ANY sales.

There is no justification for any "large" increase for standard models, other than greed.

On balance it appears that you are getting nothing more in the new RX-8, removed some specs here, and given us others there.

Naturally if we get the R3 I expect this one could be $5K more....

What teething problems could there possibly be on the S2?
Front bumper falling off?...
Rear tail light LED busted?...

Unless Mazda has upgraded or revised the ongoing problems of version 1 version 2 could be problamatic in the same areas .

I don't see how the version 1 is problematic in comparison with most other cars that are built to a budget. Therefore it'd be safe to say the series 2 will be a reasonably reliable car.

I suppose there's the prospect of quality, fitting issues with the new parts on the car but 95% of it has been tried and tested for over 4 years now, so I doubt we'll see much in the way of teething problems.

I'll test drive series II when it comes out but I just had a thought that I've been driving a modified RX8 for so long now the new car is gonna feel 'soft' (i.e. suspension feel, gear shift, exhaust sound). I'll have to recalibrate my expectations so as not to be disappointed.

Always possible when you're doing a one-off kind of car on a budget. Time will tell I suppose.

I had a think about this after watching that RX8/TT/Brera comparo on Top Gear last night (I taped it). When you compare the cost of those cars (particularly here) the RX8 remains startlingly good value for all the things it does.

Yes, they're much cheaper in Japan and yes, spare parts are extortionately priced and yes, we've had to endure some problems (especially with the earlier cars) but in the local market there is still very little that can live with it in a serious comparison where price, practicality, performance and looks are given equal weighting.

BTW, how BAD did that Brera look getting flogged around the track? Talk about jelly roll. Now THAT's a hairdresser's special - all looks, no substance. WPG's only.

I was picking up some parts for my racecar at Grand Prix Mazda - Aspley (Brisbane) when a car carrier with two 40th Anniversary RX-8's in Metropolitan Grey pulled up....and guess what? They have the same wheels as fitted on the series 2 (2009) model!!!! I wasn't expecting to see that .

Got home this evening and got a promo flyer in the mail on it.

Cheers,
Danny
