Thumbs down Why no sunroof ???

Since we are now being told that we are getting the european spect car with 7kw lower i am wondering how come we are not being given the choice of their other specifications ,eg SUNROOF ,REAR FOG LIGHTS and some of the other goodies ,surely ordering a new car shouldbe about CHOICE AND SO FAR I AM NOT IMPRESSED .MAZDA wants the preorder customers to fly the flag for them and on sell the rx8 for themin the market place .I dont mind being their test pilot but surely you should be given better choices regarding interior colours and sunroofs and other specifications .WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHS???

I emailed someone in sales at Mazda Aus. and they told me that they didn't want to reduce the cabin space by adding a moonroof. Sounds gay and it is! My family isn't particularly tall, but we don't get a say in the matter, I think it would be smarter to sit in a car w/moonroof and make the decision for yourself. After all; Isn't the customer always right??? Not real happy with the way we've been screwed. No moonroof and other stuff; loss of K/W and HP, delayed shipping, and we didn't get the best gift. In germany the first 888 got a free watch, we get a book. It seems stupid that we live closer to Japan, but are getting Euro spec cars. Stupid ADR. They'd all drive tank merc's anyway. Maybe we should screw the system and all import Jap. spec cars, like what people had to do to get a Skyline.

Thumbs down NO CHOICE???

According to the note from mazda we are getting a version of the european spec cars i dont understand what a version is ???.As far as the moon roof i feel it will create a more open feel to a cabin that has been discrived as small and cave like especially in black leather and with tinted windows , i feel that we are getting shafted from mazda JAPAN because we are a small market for them ,we are not getting ,rear fog lights choice of interiors or rear lip spoiler as euro specs , i have started lookingat my alternatives for $66,000 big ones iam sure i will find suitable wheels new or even a second hand porsche ???

While most countries are giving their early purchasers a special gift (books & watches), Mazda Canada has chosen not to do so. On the bright side we are getting the 250 HP engine, sport suspension, and pissers all as standard equipment.

Moonroofs and NAV are available as options.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the premium Bose sound system with 6 CD changer is also available to both models as standard equipment. This is a real sore point with the Yanks!

There are only two versions of the rx8 that are available in Canada, the GS and GT priced at $36,795 and 39,595 respectively in Canadian dollars. Both trim levels are available with a 250 HP 6 speed manual transmission or a 210 HP automatic transmission with sport shift paddle shifters.

GS Model - Cloth
The GS trim model is well equipped with the following items of interest; 18" alloy wheels, power windows and door locks, central locking system, keyless entry, floor mats, map lights, scuff plates, air conditioning, cruse control, premium Bose audio system with 6 disk in dash CD changer and 9 speakers, sport suspension, fog lights, headlight cleaners and 4 wheel disk brakes with ABS.

GT Model - Leather
The GT trim model has all of the features of the GS model with the following additional features; leather, heated seats, 8 way power driver seat, LSD, automatic leveling Xenon headlamps, anti-theft alarm, side air bags, side curtain air bags, auto dimming mirror and dynamic stability control. Optional to the GT model only is the moonroof ($1,000) and NAV ($3,000), which must be purchased with the moonroof.

The Canadian allocation for the 2004 model year is limited to 700 units. Apparently Mazda dealers have about 700 people on waiting lists with deposits in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) alone. Needless to say may of these people will either be receiving their deposits back or taking delivery of their cars next year.

Fortunately I was the first person at my dealership to put down a deposit so I am assured of getting my car shortly. My best guess is that I will get my baby mid to late July, considering I put my $500 deposit down on April 8th 2002 its been a very long wait. If it wasn't for this forum I think I would have gone crazy by now.

My understanding is that Mazda chose not to offer yellow accented interiors because of dirt, too difficult to keep it looking clean. If this is true, I do not expect them to change their position on the subject.

Regarding the sun-roof...

I was down at Mazda HO yesterday as they were interviewing buyers for an in-house video.

I had a sit in the car and got to start it up.. *yum*

One thing I noticed was that there was not a great deal of headroom. I'm 6'3" and my hair was scraping the roof lining.

When I sat in a 200SX (Spec S) I had the same sensation but when I got into the Spec R (with sunroof) my actual head was "bumping" the sun-roof mount that was protruding into the cabin.

Lucky for me we're not getting sunroofs... otherwise I would have ordered and then been very disappointed.

I'm still wondering how I'm going to fit into the car with my Helmet on tho... hmmm.... I wonder if the seat can be lowered on the mounts like the MX-5???
