Where is the promised MAZDA oil for the RX8???
I want to go on record as saying this very loud...
I have no issues with my car.
I've never had any issues with my car.
My dealings with Mazda Australia have benn satisfactory.
My dealings with Brookvale Mazda sales were excellent.
My dealings with Brookvale Mazda service are excellent - from first contact and ongoing.
I am 100% happy and satisfied with my car.
Yes, I'd like more power - HEAPS MORE POWER!!! Someday I'll address that. I intended to do it anyway.
Yes, I'd love one of Hymee's grill kits.
My car is RED and I wake up relieved to know this everytime I have a nightmare about evil fiends spraying my car yellow in the dark of the night
PS I'm not trying to fuel an arguement, these are my feelings and I love the car!

WRT the original topic...
I let Mazda service put the "appropriate" oil in. If I have issues, then problem belong them.
I don't know why synthetic oil is worst than mineral oil for burning. Synthetic oil is the same molecular structure of carbon and hydrogen atoms, it just gets made in a factory, rather than coming out of the ground. Hydrocarbons burn don't they?
Thanks Kev - I'll put you down for a grill
Cheers,
Hymee.

/* this could all be wrong */
My understanding of synthetic vs mineral is this :
When Ze Germans were first trying to make synthetic oils
early last century, they tried to duplicate mineral oils exactly. And this is still possible. As Hymee said, it is essentially the same stuff.
However, Mineral oils tend to have impurities. Things which are hard to crack, such as parrifins and other waxes. These waxes lower the shear strength of the oil, meaning they will break down easier. Oil companies add long chain polymers to mineral oils to boost the shear strength - whereas they tend not to do this with the much purer synthetic oils. Even this additional additive tends not to work as well as synthetics, however, such that mineral oils tend not to last as long as servicable oils.
Here is where the Mazda bit kicks in :
Synthetics don't break down as easily, they burn at higher temperatures. They work better. The Rotary must burn oil to lubricate the the seals. If the oil doesn't burn, then deposits can build up. This can lead to plug fouling.
Also, long term exposure of the seals to oil can cause them to swell, causing engine failure. This is far less likely to happen to Mineral oils, because the Mineral oils burn off quicker.
Now, I spoken to Rotary Heaven here in Adelaide, and they recommend Synthetic oils for their cars. Race cars. They don't recommend them for Street cars. Their reasoning is that they strip down their engines and replace the seals frequently - elimintating the buildup.

... and to continue, as I understand it also (there is no 'the thread' on this issue -- there are many
), the Renesis seals are different to previous rotary seals and hence synthetic oil is regarded as acceptable -- hence my dealer using Mobil1.
As Hymee says, I will use what they put in and then it is their problem.

Aston martin is making 2 models 1 being the larger more expensive DB9 , and the shorter aston martin vantage v8 which should sell for the same price as the porsche at around $ 240,000
The car has been featured in lots of magazines and looks great , they are using a lot of new technology on this car .
Since i will be keeping the rx8 i will be getting some other colour , most likely silver , it looks great in the photoes .

Oh, a Vanquish. My absolute favourite. (The only car in the world I'd consider in green with tan leather!)
Price though ... $170,000, I thought it'd be more like $550,000 plus in Oz.
For $170,000 I'd even have it if it was yellow
You know, I've always wanted a DB4, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it to the car (living too close to the ocean - watching a bond mobile rust would break my heart!)

Here is the oil
It doesn't look like much. But if you read the back it will say how its specially formulated for the rotary engine.
Mazda 5W-30 SJ Motor Oil
K200W0528M 200 Litre Drum
K200W0528M4 4 Litre pack (order in multiples of 4)
K200W0528M2 2 Litre pack (order in multiples of 8)
Also regaurding the oil cooler cover.
My question would be why do you need one ????
I've had 3 RX-7's
2 with twin oil coolers (eg. FD RX-7) front mounted like the RX-8 and I have never ever had any problems with the oil coolers.
Also our RX-8's have nothing wrong with them at work and they are driven daily.
My suggestion is if works fine leave it.
The flys you hit won't hurt the oil cooler.
I remeber my RX-7 has 143,000km on the clock now.
So my thoughts................. Don't worry about the cooler.
Hot this helps the oil debarkele

Meastro,
I heard you can handle sheep better than us bastards. :p And sheep will push back at the top of the cliff...
Seriously - what were you asking about the "oil cooler cover"? If a rock lunched my A/C condensor (and at least 1 others I know of), then chances are fair that a rock could do the same to the oil cooler. Or did I miss your point?
Cheers,
Hymee.
