Where do the English get their horses from?

Can anyone tell me where the English RX-8s get the extra horse power? What's the difference between the two models?

Oh ... the english RX8's get their horsepower because of a Giant who lives on a cloud ...

... he said "Fee Fie Foe Fum, I reckon the RX-8s should have more power for Englishmen"

And then Mazda rejoiced, for they were so pleased that they didn't get eaten by the Giant, after they just managed to squeeze enough out to make the Giant happy.

I am guessing it has to do with a number of things like emmisions requirements, fuel quality, etc.

Ours are "Euro spec"... it meant to be 230bhp.

Japan is 250ps, which is a different tune.

Why is everyone so serious?

Harpo, no, a screw fell out a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Maybe I've gone a bit Frooty!

I remember reading 228bhp ... that 2hp could be attributed to a K&N panel filter I presume hahaha

Now the confusion clears... kw, bhp and ps measurments I think are used to confuse people so you can not compare specifications easily across manufacturers. My confusion started when I spoke to a dealer. He claimed we didn't get the English manual version. What we didn't get was the manual version of the Australian (redline 7500rpm) automatic. New it's clear.

Pity we didn't get the navsat stuff the English did...

ps = bhp . "PS" is the German abbreviation for "Pferdestaerke", which translates as "horse power". "PS" is no longer an official unit, however it sort of sounds cooler than BHP. BHP or PS = 745.7kW.

I hope I don't get too much flak over this. FLAK = Flieger-Abwehr-Kanone=anti-aircraft gun.

Sorry, I had a decimal moment there. 1bhp or ps = 0.7457kW

Actually, and this is quite off thread, Google don't want you to 'Google It'. They fut up a fine arguement to try and save thier name becoming the category definition like Biro, Hoover and Kleenex. But I can't remember what it is right now.

By the way, I saw a rare Nissan Skyline this morning - all the panels were the same colour! That's almsot as rare as a WRX with a standard exhaust!

Thanks for the translation Labby.

I had heard that ps was the German way of referring to horsepower but it's the first time I've had it confirmed so clearly.

BTW, I first heard the term when a German intern I had at the time was riding in my car and remarked that it felt like it had plenty of ps. Must say, I did ask her to repeat the comment because I thought she said something else.

Easily the best looking German intern I've had btw. She's going to make a Hans or Fritz very happy one day.
