What would the correct offsets be for an 18x8 wheel? +36?

And because I am lazy, what is the PCD?

And I did widen the wheel - to 8.5.

Had to roll my rear guards though.

I think the car looks MUCH better with an aggressive offset. Rims can get lost in this car, particularly the fronts if you haven't lowered it.

I'll wait for the canary - had the rims for about 3 years now and so far no cop has even looked sideways at it.

Just to remind other people that RWC rules are diff in diff states. Check your local authority.

I don't think offset comes to equation as along as it does not extend beyond the arch. Very subjective.

Actually All states impose some parts of the National legislation. Wheels are one of the few that are imposed by all states. And that legislation says you cant change the track of the car by more than 25mm which means you can go below +38 in the RX-8 (+38 = 12mm each side = 24mm, +35 = 15mm each side = 30mm).

DrGonzo, wheel width doesnt affect the offset affect as track is measured from the centreline of the tyre, there for up to +38 is legal. anything smaller technically "illegal".

PCD is:

On the RX-8 it is 114.3.

That should fit rather easily under the guards, I am assuming?

25mm will that include the width? Does it measure the centre of wheel or edge?

We need to be clear how to measure it.

I will update it all tonight as I need to dig up my previous research. However in summary, offset cannot be used alone to figure how much you will fill your guards, increase in width will also, ie 8" to 8.5" will increase .25" (6.35mm) on each side so coupled with +36 offset you will be 14mm + 6.35mm = 20.35mm closer to the guard.

Track is measured when looking head on at the car from the centre of the tyre, hence +36 offset from a +50 offset means track on the left is moved to the left 14mm and track on the right wheel is moved to the right 14mm equating to an overall track increase of 28mm (illegal in all states I believe).

As I said, I will post up the previous info tonight which included pictures.

Here is the link to the national regs. As Graham pointed out the QLD state interpretation, the Vic ones are here. The 2 documents have similar (1mm different) on the wheel track issue. The QLD doc has a good picture of measuring track.

Couldn't be arsed digging up all the specific doco I did last time. But hoping these are enough.

If you love the car the way it is, then it is not "broke"......so why not spend it on something that is "broke" or lacking.

You don't have a desktop, so that would definately be an improvement.

You don't have a decent sound system at home (which by extension, means you probably don't have a good home theater system, either) so a sound system will be an improvement.

You are set when you are in the car........now get set for when you are out of the car.

if you're going 8.5, it is possible to fit 30-35 in there. It should sit flush to the guards

Im getting some 9.0 +38 rims soon so that should fit nicely

It's not broke, but can be improved.

I have a decent set up at home, the only thing lacking is surround sound, but with a 4 month old daughter at home, I will probably never get a chance to enjoy it at full volume.

I don't use the computer much away from work, and I have a wireless broadband modem (work supplied) so if I really need to browse the net at home, I can. I have an external hard drive to back up personal stuff, so when time comes for a laptop upgrade, I am pretty set.

I would really love to the things to my car as mentioned in teh original post. I am leaning toward the wheels but the tax man raped me sideways and I didn't clear as much as I expected. That said, I would rather get a set of wheels over suspension and exhaust at the moment.



So... 18x8 +42... I won't have any rubbing issues? 235/40/18 tyres (or maybe 45 profile, I don't remember... 40 sounds about right).
