Used Mazda Roadside assitance! OIL problem
Used Mazda Roadside assitance! OIL problem
i used road side assitance the other day cause my oil light came on! THEY told me that they couldnt send a car to check the oil pressure so its best if they send a tow truck and take it to my local service centre!! IT seemed a little extreme! BUT i thought dam its a new car and theres an oil leak! AND i didnt want any warranty issues down the track! SO they took the car to my dealer and latter that day the dealer called me and said that it was low on oil and they apparently put about 2 litres in! AND there isnt an oil leak! AND that rotaries drink allot of oil and i should check it every couple of thousand k's! DO you think this sounds right!!
anyway the moral of the story is that it cost me $50 bucks for 5 litres of oil and they picked up my car! and washed it!! THIS normally costs me $26? so i thought it was a bargain!??

Oh dear. In your owners manual the first thing they tell you in the "Owner Maintenance" section on page 8-15 is that the Renesis requires regular checking of the oil. Once a month should be enough in most cases.
Marky...you have some light reading ahead of you :p .
Cheers,
Gomez.

Come on my friend!!!!!!!
page 5-31 and 8-15 of the owners manual clearly states recommending checking the oil at every 2ND Fuel fill-up!!!!!!!!!
How many km have you done without checking the oil level!!!
The dealer you bought it off should also be shot for not explaining this IMPORTANT point.
DO you know your car has a ROTARY engine in it???
Thank god you found this website - it will provide you the education you need to treat your baby right.

Give the guy a bit of a break. Since he's only had the car since April, I'm surprised he's used as much as 2litres since his 1000km service, which makes me wonder whether the dealer added enough oil then. I have hardly had to add any oil to mine, even though I check the level regularly.
Come to think of it, I don't think that my dealer really stressed the importance of checking the oil, but i guess most of the population wouldn't check the oil in their cars from one service to the next.

Oh boy! :p :D
Well done Marky for having the courage to own up.
Let's look on the bright side. As Timbo says, the oil light works.
And it sounds like Roadside Assistance errs on the side of caution. I reckon most other services would have told him to buy the first litre of oil he could find, tip it in and then drive it to his dealer.
As to checking the oil - my salesman didn't breathe a word about it and I know plenty of people who don't read the manual when they buy cars far more expensive than the 8. They just get in and drive 'em.
My old man engrained into me the habit of checking oil, water and tyre pressure once a week (okay, sometimes it's once a fortnight) and of course getting onto this site reinforced that for this particular car.
However, in Marky's defence, he's probably a young dude who grew up with modern, reliable japanese cars that don't leak oil and can stand a lot of ignoring before they exhibit any kind of problem. Hell, I'm still getting used to the idea that you can wait 10k between every service.
He now knows better so give him a break.

Brookvale Mazda Andrew.
Funny really, 'cause the sales manager who I picked the car up from went to some pains to give me a run down on the DSC button and how the bose stereo worked, etc. And I otherwise have found them very good to deal with.
Perhaps he was just having a blonde day and forgot.

It took over 3,000km for us to use 1 Litre of oil...
I can remember a certain manufacturer of non-rotary cars that used to tell its customers that it would not consider an oil consumption problem until it was using 1.5l per 1,000km AND the dealer had to add the oil and take the measurements...
Whenever you get a new car - regardless of it being a rotary - always check the oil level every couple of tanks of fuel..

Good on ya for owning up, marky. It is all an education.
Myself, I let the "add oil light" do it's job. When it tells me to add oil, I do. Now that might take some of the heat off you and I cop some flack instead.
Cheers,
Hymee.

Note to self... never loan my car to Hymee :p
The rumour goes... last time Hymee ran out of 710 he couldn't find any 710 stores nearby so had to do with a 711 instead
