Turbo RX-8 at Sydney Motor Show!

Hi guys,

Dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but at the Sydney Motor Show, now the Australian Internation Motor Show, Mazda Aus. have unveiled a turbo rx-8. Complete with red racing stripes down the side.... i saw this on web cast. Can anyone living in Sydney make the trip up and report to us any news on this thing. I know it's part of Mazda's plans to create show cars, and it might stay as such. But someone there may have details on the turbo system etc. used. Then maybe we can go do the same

Btw, the car was unveiled by Guy Sebastian, who apparently drives and rx-8 and loves it. As does comedian Dave Hughes...

I still don't know of a turbo that can flow 270kW @ 7.5psi and still have a powerband as wide as the RENESIS. I suspect this will either be a laggy race-only type motor or the whole things is just a stunt. Hope I'm wrong.

Designed and engineered here in Australia by no other than Allan Horsley.
This guy was responsible for the RX7 SP models in the last few years Mazda Australia sold the cars here.

He also conceived the turbo charged MX5 (the 147kw, not the 121kw) that was shown about 18mths ago here in Australia.

How do we get a hold off the re-programed Ecu from Allan horsley ??? 52% more power and 65% more torque .From a smallish turbo , sounds fishy to me .

Hymee and DR phil the bar has been raised , can you match or better these figures ????

cheers

Talking

:D Guys,

This concept has been rumoured for some time, remember this is still a standard Renesis with an improved fuel system & ecu map, tubo......... etc. I wouldnt be surprised if this is all of Joes work from Rotomaster just someone else may be better at marketing the concept and taking the glory.
If you recall Joe had turbocharged his own RX8, and was not chasing the KW but the increase in midrange torque was impressive.

I will check out the Motorshow tomorrow, and take some pics of this turbo beast, 270KW & 350NM sound like a great Xmas present or upgrade, If this is to be Mr Horsleys RX8SP then have your cheque book ready, as these babies are rare as hens teeth :D :D

My source within Mazda has told me that 270kw and 350nm were the figures they are triyng to achieve with the coupe version of the RX8 .

Can Mazda have two cars RX7 AND RX8 WITH SIMILAR POWER OUTPUTS in the same market place ???

cheers

Guys,
This is sadly just a teaser. Mazda OZ only trot out old Alan to help sell struggling models. ie shift stock. Since the RX-8 is selling as fast as they arrive (aside from yellow automatics of course) you can safely say this is pretty bloody unlikely.

With that said, Mazda OZ's current CEO is famous for his dealer installed turbo kits on first gen RX-7's so who knows what he's thinking

I'd pay up to $10K for a "factory" Mazda turbo kit and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there prepared to do the same

Everybody in Sydney who's attending the show, please make a lot of enquiries at the Mazda stand about the availability of the kit, who knows, if the demand is great enough, they'll build it.

There's also a few threads on the motorshow in general and this RX-8 in particular on AusRotary.

Ok just got off the phone to them at Mazda motor sport. The car will not be released as a production vehicle. They told me it is more likely that the technology they develop will be sold off to another company or used as an after market mod.

They are trying to get the finshed product ready in time for Targa Tasmania, however realistically their perfected product is still 3 months away and from there they will decide what will happed to it after this process is finished.

There we go, another "we shall wait and see"

Are they seriously going to race that? That will be great...

Hopefully they are going to read my following comment.

Change the oil cooler and radiator and otherwise you will have a overheated engine in the middle of no where (in Tas :p)

Even the NA do 20 laps need a radiator and oil cooler and Mazda Japan races locally with rad, oil cooler, brake pad and road cage as the MUST HAVE for entry.
