truckie jailed for at least 8 years
I'm sure this would put a smile on TonyM's (amongst others) face.

This is the bloke who drove an unroadworthy truck on the Mooney Mooney bridge, killed a person and destroyed TonyM's 8.

Thanks for the update...
"He sentenced the truckie to a maximum of 10 years and eight months for manslaughter, with a minimum of eight years.
Lawler will serve three-and-a-half years for the dangerous driving charges concurrently."
Can he do that? Is that because it is the same incidence - you cannot do that if you are charged for 2 murder charges in 2 incidences, right Revolver?

No I was saying.
He serves 3 years for dangerous driving. And 10 years (min of 8) for manslaughter but he is serving his sentences concurrently. So he is getting out in 8 years not 11 years.
But I think it will stack up if you, say offence 1 thing in 2000 and another offence 2 in 2001 and got caugt today... you got 2 years for offence 1 and 2 years for offence 2...
Do you get 2 years in jail or 4 years?
In Lawler incidence, the driving offence and manslaughter happened together - so he can serve the charges concurrently? Is that how it works?

Revolver is conspicuous by his absence.. Must have RSI from typing so many messages... :D :D :D
I had a look at the posts from around the time of the incident, it was certainly a horrible event - that poor woman.. 8 years for taking someones life in such a horrific way does not seem much...

His non parole period is 8 years (before he is released), once released he will serve 2 years (making the 10) on parole reporting to a parole officer.
I think this is the go!
I am happy to see he got his just deserts.

From my reading of the case and the reasons for sentence I would have given him 10 on the bottom but I'm mean.
It is very confusing and thanks for sort it out for me.... although it is not important for me is it?
I think 10 years will teach him well... he should not be allowed to drive again though
