Smile Touch Up Paint - Yellow

Have any of you Yellow RX8 owners found an aftermarket touch up paint colour that matches reasonably well with our car colour? In an attempt to purchase some from MAZDA I was informed that it is not made in this colour!

I really couldn't be bothered (and I don't think they would like too) to have a paint shop specifically mix me up 1/2 litre.

I keep asking my wife if they make Nail Polish in Yellow and she says yes! But after a year of continued asking I am yet to see this Yellow Nail Polish. I am thinking of removing the Fuel Lid door and slipping it into her bag next time she goes shopping - that might remind her!

Mate, the code for Lightning Yellow is A4J...I'm surprised they said it's not available, have you tried another dealer?

I bought some touch-up paint for my blue one yesterday....cost $11.

All colours are available except for Lightning Yellow! I have made several enquiries to several dealerships over the past eight months and all have said - N/A.

Sux doesn't it! MAZDA discriminate against Yellow RX8 owners, why bring out a colour on a car and then don't provide a touch up paint for it ????

Lightning Yellow was an RX8 exclusive only colour, so maybe Mazda didn't see fit to mass produce touch up paint in this colour?

Yet another "exclusiveness" with the yellow I guess?

Mazda knew that they would only sell the Lightning Yellow RX-8s to the "careful drivers out there" that will only write off their cars when they DO have an accident but not having minor trolley accident at the local Coles supermarkets.

JoeB,

Have you talked to Rockdale Service Department? I can email the manager if you would like tomorrow and ask?

Regards
Phillip

Like he said, Touch-up Paint A4J, I'm holding a delivery package from mazda which says Part #0000-88-0154-93. 93 is the number appearing on the lid.

I found the Vel Red touch up paint is ok, but not a great match for the original -- slightly darker.

Careful kiddo.... some of my best friends are grannies... and they'd eat you for breakfast... :D :p

Odd about the touch up colour. They definitely did make one and my dealer was able to get one for me, which I still have. It's a genuine Mazda item. Maybe the parts person looked under 'yellow' instead of 'lightning yellow'? Or perhaps they couldn't be bothered stocking it here after they decided to discontinue the colour on the car?

Being a fairly 'spirited' driver (when I'm not busy chasing grannies on foot, of course...) I've had to use the touch up a fair bit too. Just the usual minor damage you get from running over prams on zebra crossings, nudging trucks out of the way, reversing into penguins, etc. (those beak chips can be tricky to fix...).

BVD well said :D

Taka is upset because we drive our cars on a full time basis in a spirited fashion , enjoying it everiday while he drives his White camry to and from work with a sticker saying .

"Forgive me but my other car is a black RX8" :p

cheers

Thanks guys (Except for Taka and his ridiculous comments!),

The dealers I rang never looked anything up. They said "No not available in that colour"

Choppy, Rockdale Mazda were one of them that said this and this is where I brought my car from!

Now that I have the part # (thanks MELRX8) I will just quote this number and get some. And it is called "Customer Service"? something I have yet to see!

Joe, you realise that MELRX8 is in the States....

You may not be able to get the paint....even with the part number.
BVD may be right and it's not stocked anymore .

Good luck with your hunt!

Talk to the right people at Mazda Rockdale and they will look after you. The right people would be interested to also know if you got treated wrong or was given mis leading information.

I will check in out in Melbourne for you if you like Joe.

The touch up paint I get is from other company - the "John Citizen" brand touch up paint -and I rather go to a paint shop and ask for half a litre. Anyone have "genuine" Mazda touch up paint?

BTW Joe, sorry about "all the yellow cars are being driven by Sri Lankan cabbies" comment. I am deeply remorseful :o

As Gomez said earlier, the code here is A4J.

The can I have is small (not much bigger than a lipstick or nail varnish). The painted part of the can says Mazda Touch-Up Paint.

The wording on the stick-on label says:

LIGHTNING YELLOW
MZDA-TU-PNT A4J

Underneath that (but still on the label) is a number so small that it takes a magnifying glass to read:

#190403 324BS - 1 (The B could possibly be an 8)

Good luck.

Just looked at the bottle I got....it's made by "Scratch and Match, Victoria"....it's not the genuine Mazda article.

I haven't tried it yet. Will do when I get some time next week and the weather fines up a bit....
