Sydney owners. FREE hiflow cat midpipe offer

Enquired to smb exhaust in Sydney (www.smb.com.au) who make fantastic exhaust systems ie( developed the exhaust for the famous Rx7 -sp) if they had developed a stainless high flow cat mide pipe for the Rx8 as yet. They havent but would love to develop one . The offer was that if anyone in the Sydney area could lend them their car , they would get the final product for FREE including full dyno before/after figures. I would love to take up this offer but live 580km away in Albury.
So someone in Sydney take up this offer!!!!!!! You will help develop a hiflow cat midpipe that will be available for sale to all of us.

Contact Grant on : Ph 0298291933 or email Grant@walkerman.com.au

Well, great offer it might be but driving without cat, u riskin 10k fine on the spot if u get spotted by po-po shooting flames out of the exhaust. i got a race pipe but once i heared this could happen, i took it off.

hi-flow cat is fine.

"gutted" cat is a 10k on the spot fine and no cat is a 20k on the spot fine.

i'd suggest someone to go for it, especially if you are looking at an aftermarket exhaust route (have a chat with the company first anyway... and see whats in the pipeline).

lending your car to a proper company isnt a big deal, have done that many times and the best part of it is that you get the first product and get it for free....

I've emailed him and will see what he's got in mind.

Has to be street legal for me to go ahead with it.

Go boys...Ask them to do an exhaust as well. Need some new blood on the scene. I am still getting over the advertised price of the turboxs exhaust on the .com.au as compared to the .com site. Its like 3 times the price and they get the mid pipe!

I was beaten to the punch by someone else.

However, I think I'm first reserve.

Their No 1 priority is to do a high flow metalic substrate cat midpipe firstly as no-one in Australia has developed one yet. And then a cat back exhaust also if the Sydney Rx8 owner leaves their car with smb exhaust for a 2 week period.
Their research and development is outstanding , the exhausts they develop are world beaters and they dyno tune again and again on their inhouse dyno to ensure max power gain and refinement. This is a very switched on company. Has a very high reputation with the rx7 crowd.
I have seen some of their high flow metal substrate cats and exhaust systems installed on a late model Rx7 and the craftmanship just blew me away.
Finally we will be getting a great high flow cat midpipe to replace the asthmatic, fragile , expensive and power robbing standard unit.Time to rejoice.!!!!!!!!!!

Rexi

I don't need a cat replacement yet but it's good news they are working on it.

hope they make the cat back exhaust. I have been looking at their site for years hoping they would produce one.

I'd drive from here to get it done if they're paying!

wouldnt it be a better idea if someone from that company comes online and introduce him/herself first.....
thats how a few other companies got the "testing cars" from here previously.

better idea than asking/getting an existing forum member to get a "guinea pig" for the company.... it doesnt feel "sincerely" enough...

Lets get this straight. The company did not ask for anyone on this forum to become a guineapig. They did not seek out this offer.
To make this crystal clear , I personally contacted smb to see whether they had as yet developed a high flow cat midpipe because of their past work with the rotary community, and their great reputation. They replied back to me to say that they had not developed one as yet but would be happy to developing one for me , and that if I supplied my Rx8 to them for 1 week , they would provide the finished midpipe to me at zero cost. A very generous offer I would think.
However I replied back to them that because I am not from Sydney, would they make this offer available to a local Sydney Rx8 owner with the purpose of completing a high flow cat midpipe that i and anyone else who wanted one could subsequently purchase. They were happy to assist. It was then that i , and i alone posted on this website for a possible volunteer from Sydney to make contact with them.

So, they did not instigate this in any fashion.

Regards

Rexi

the 1st post was quite clear that you have started this "offer", no doubts about it...

but now since the company knows about it and needs an rx8 to help them to develop a product to expand their product range, i think it is fair enough for one of their guys to come on and provide more info to the general fourm public.

not too much to ask is it....?

well I gotta say that I think it is up to us to judge, however given the hiostory of this forum and peoples responses to vendors expressing interest, I dont blame this vendor and think that they are doing the right thing...just getting the job done with no BS. WHen its ready, I am sure people will find out.

Exactly Kall ... we get to make an informed decision as a consumer ... but we can't tell a vendor how they should do their business ... unless of course you're an efficiency expert of some sort.
