Strakes/Chrome Wheels

Guys,
Have any aussies had experience in ordering fender strakes from the US (through E-Bay or anywhere else)?
The factory strakes look good, but for $550 they seem just a tad pricey!
Also, check out the attached pic from the Mazda Oz website. Chrome (or polished) wheels. I like it! Anyone gone down this path (either chroming or polishing the standard wheels)?

Bling Bling

I think the chrome wheels will stand out a lot more then what we see in this photo. If you want attention then go for it.

With all the damn brake dust that builds up on mine, I'm starting to think a set of charcoal wheels is the way to go!

Agreed re: fender strakes. I ordered the factory ones and just pretended I wasn't really paying $550 for 4 little bits of metal. Still, I think they really finish off the car well.

They're not available from Mazda, BTW. A little artistic license was used in that shot. Don't know if anyone has done that here.....maybe you'd be interested in the Special Edition RX-8 if this sort of stuff is up your alley? It has wheels with a little more bling.

I ordered some resin strakes that look like the real ones. Got them from a forum member here. See pic attached.

Is it from D Manac 7?

$500 is a rip off!

Talking about finishing touch at the side vent. Why not a Carbon fibre side vent. It is only around $215. Tonym and I got it on our cars https://www.rx8club.com/australia-new-zealand-forum-37/carbon-fibre-side-vents-56146/

Yep D Manac 7. Nah don't think I need a Carbon Fibre side vent. One thing I forgot to do while I was in the UK was check out pricing on the rear fog lamp. That's probably the next exterior part that I want, then maybe the front accent.

Mazda Australia do have a standard "Shadow Chrome" wheel as an option for the RX-8. I have them on mine after seeing them on a Silver 8 at West End Mazda Parramatta.

I'll try to get some pics on here asap.

Cheers,
John

[QUOTE=MissRx8]

I put them on myself, so It cant be all dat hard if a chick was able to do it....... hehe Yea Mazda sells em very pricey, worked out much cheaper getting em elsewhere. Mazda will charge for time to put them on for you aswell, prob an hours work. It took me about half an hour to put em on, only cuz i spent more time tryin to take the screws off QUOTE]

Missy 8,
How do the doovylackies (strakes) attach? No hole drilling? A bit of Superglue and tape perhaps?

Gomez, do you mean the Shinka edition, or is there another special on the way? I asked a local dealer about a Shinka, and was told they were all gone. Speaking of which, has anyone heard of rumours about a new model coming any time soon?

Yes mate, I meant the Shinka (although they didn't call it that here). Shame they're all gone...we were meant to get 110, but I'm not sure that it worked out that way due to the fire at the factory in Japan.

Those Shinkas must have flown out the door (and all been Titanium). There's only supposed to be 150 or so EVO 8's in the country .... and three of them are currently on one of Canberra Mits dealer's floor

They shoyld be about 200 for strakes shipped. (Guesstimate)

Tim Tam,

Saw the chrome wheel live today at City Melbourne Mazda. It is not bad at all.... not for me but quality wise it is ok. Tell them about a swap, or people here will grab the brand new set of stock rim from you.

Eh? Was is a dealer polished alloy? I'm unaware of a factory accessory chrome wheel.
