Just down at John Newell Mazda in Waterloo, and they have Mazda Rotary Oil on special at $45 for 5L while stocks last....most places seem to be up around the $70-$80 mark at the moment.

Bugger!

Wish I'd known that this morning. I could've dropped in on my way back from Wollongong, filled the car with as many bottles as would fit and cornered the MRO market.

Is is still in date (LOL)....me thinks that the new oil could have some changes maybe and they are running out the 'old recipe"???

Well I'm not happy just paid $19 for 1L

I'm over the oil issue...Max is getting synthetic and that's that!

My love of engine oil remains when I see Redline oils are $123 for less than 4 litres.

If you spoke to Bruce my other half about Redline he would crack a mental....he says it's crappier than Bi-Lo engine oil. He has pulled down many an engine that has toasted itself running on RedLine......parently....it's spensive but not that good.....

Excellent value.

I'll pop in there ASAP. Need to do a change on the 20B-REW engine.

Do Mazda say if this oil is good for the turbo rotaries.? I ask this as it was originally imported for the 13B-MSP engine & we all know there is a big performance difference between the MSP & REW engines.

E.G 13B-REW + 20B-REW

Spoke to the WD about this last night Taka. His advice was Castrol make really good oils and they do the job. He didn't have an opinion on Motul apart from why pay more for something when Castrol does the job..

He said stay away from RedLine in gear boxes as it's so sticky and sometimes if you put the oil in the gearbox then run the car and not check the level again the oil has stuck to everything and the level has dropped. He also said that if you blow the box or the engine then RedLine actually makes it hard to rebuild cause it coats everything in a BAD way....

We are going to put Castrol Edge in my car and see how it goes.....

Mazda charge like wounded bulls for oil and servicing........

Anyhow if you want any more info PM and I will see if WD can be more specific...

The very first five litre packs of Rotary oil came in Castrol branded containers. Later ones didn't.

Are your new ones branded like this very early one......?

Same label, no embossing on the bottle though and delivery date to Newells was 22/5/06 so new into their shop in anycase. No packed on date that i could find. Will check it out with Craig at Castrol and let you guys know.

Ah hah! Now I really believe the WD....Castrol is the only way to go....

Who's to say that the oil Mazda sell us isn't the same as Castrol Edge??

Here in Adelaide there is a dealer that uses and only supplies Castrol Magnatec for their RX8 services....so I think if it's good for them then getting Edge will be fine!

Good luck with the oil hunt!! The PLOT THICKENS!!

Whoa....back up the wagon there cowgirl!!!

A document I obtained from my dealer two years ago stated that Mazda Australia imported Rotary Oil from Mazda Japan in bulk.....then decantered it locally. It is very possible that Mazda Oz contracted Castrol Australia to package the oil for distribution from it's dealer outlets. This theory of mine would explain why Rotary Oil isn't Castrol branded (with the exception of the first shipment that was rushed out to dealers in early 2004).

Mez, that makes some sense, they import quite a lot of specialist product and pack here. Aviation, marine lubes etc.
