My dear fellow users .....
I've long bored you with my pathetic wailing about the long wait for my much anticipated 8 ... well the wait is almost over !!
My car is ready to roll at the dealers and I'm picking it up in the morning ....
One last question - any good tips to check when collecting the car?
eg .. How can I tell if the car has the right baffles in the sump
Any other ideas

Woo hoo!
Things to check:
Tyre pressures
All fluids (oil, brake fluid, fuel, coolant)
Check everything cosmetic - all body panels, all internal panels, trim, dash
Check mags for scratches, tyres for any damage
Test every button, ****, switch
Check all speakers
All bulbs (you'll need help with this one)
Run the A/C on maximum and make sure there is no rattling
Look underneath and make sure there is no damage
Check ODO reading
Confirm VIN and engine numbers match the paperwork

That'll about cover it! Oh yeh - make sure your sunnies fit in the sunglass compartment. Mine didn't, so I went and bought a new pair!

My tip - book in your 1000K service before you leave... should take less than a week to do the 1000K and most service departments have about a week wait.
Nothing worse than hitting the 1000 and having to wait another week for a service!

Thanks folks .. some good tips!
For some unexplicable reason I cant get tired ..... so I'll just print off my checklist ...
Did I mention its only 9 hours away - - - but who is counting!!

Ohh Yeeaahh!
Glad you wait is nearly over.
Running in - the book says "not to use high revs (above 7000 RPM) for extended periods of time for the first 1000 km. So I guess if you short shift at 7 you'll be OK.:D
Seriously...
Running in is about letting the wearing surfaces bed in to each others shapes. Modern engines are build with higher tolerances, so it is less critical. They dont even use running in oil anymore, nor change the oil at the first service.
I know people whose running in motto is "Drive it like you stole it" as soon as you are out of sight of the dealer
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Hymee.

Seriously...
- Let it warm up properly before you make it do much work.
- Avoid constant RPM driving.
- I always take my new cars out to a steep hill, and go up and down a couple of time at different /gears RPM to put some pressure behind the seals (or rings in older cars), both under load, and under compression.
