Semi-slick Tyre Pressure Question??
Just wondering what psi I should have in semi-slick tyres for the track?
34lb HOT.Start on 30lb cold,do a few laps then drop them to 34lb HOT.
If they're brand new, don't go to hard on them for a few laps. Cheers Len |
Ok thanks mate.I now have to fix the scrubbing issue before the weekend. I am going to try to change the camber so that it clears the guard tomorrow,I hope it works..

Agree with MACCA ,34psi is a good starting point. Have a look at your tyre after about 5 laps and check that you are getting even heat across the tyre. I have gone as low as 32psi hot depending on the ambient temp. I use Dunlop DS2 hard compound.

It's hard as I have to guess before I get there as I have nitrogen in the tyres and cant change the pressures at the track.I put 30psi in them a couple of weeks ago and seemed ok but I may have to drain the nitrogen and try some other pressures with air..
If you really have a tyre full of nitrogen (and I'm buggered if I know how tyre shops do that :icon_no2: ), then you won't be affected as much by temperature changes, so pick a mid-range (around 34psi) and stick to it
Ok thanks. It is a full tyre of nitrogen too as I watched them fill and then empty it at least 3 or 4 times to ensure there was next to no air left in them..
It impossible unless they do it in a nitrogen filled chamber ;)
They have a machine that sucks air out then pumps Nitrogen in and the result is apparently 98/99% Nitrogen?
Well its impossible to get 98/99% of the air out of a tyre in one go. So unless they empty and fill with nitro' more than once then its B/S.
Cheers Andrew |
They did,at least 3 times that I saw,and when I asked them why they said it was to make sure there was as little % of air left as possible..
Even better :) Are you happy to be driving the street on your slicks at 34psi?
I had planned on leaving them on full time but the road noise is horrendous and they are actually dangerous(I nearly found out the hard way) when they have no heat in them.Street driving isn't enough to get them sticky so they are roick hard. So I use my stock wheels now between track days while I look for another set of mags that I like..
I think I recall warning you about that :p:
You did but I thought I knew better didn't I. But I nearly found out the hard way. Next time I will listen..
Actually I was more getting at the noise. My R888's are fantastic on the road and the only time I get worried is in heavy rain.

I'm going to see if tomorrow's track day finally kills off my PS2's. The rubber is going to perish before I run out of tread at this rate!!
See you down there Dave. Are you leaving tonight or early tomorrow?

What sort of mileage have you got out of your PS2s revolver. Have you been happy with them compared to RE040. How is the steering response compared to the Bridgies. Would you buy them again?

Very happy with them compared to the OEM tyres. Quieter (especially with some wear), better ride and grip better in wet and dry. I've kept steering response sharp by fitting 235's to 8.5 rims. I'll buy them again unless I can find something better. |
