Saturday sprints

Is anyone going to willowbank for the sprints again this weekend?

Not sure if I should go to the sprint day or the drift day on sunday?

I'm might pop down for a look and a chat.

I managed to get another track day in with a mate in the French Car Club (RX8 in heavy disguise obviously) a little while ago and posted a 1.06.3 that time. Another chap in a titsilver RX8 was also invited and managed a 1.05.9 too so a stock RX is a bit of hoot. Really ought to do more karting because otherwise I'm thinking of new wheels/semi-slicks, Hymee's house of exhaust and ECU programming and gawd knows what other expensive trinkets to get some extra tenths shaved off...!!!

Damn some of those semi-slick and fettled little Peugeots were fast though, posting sub 1.05s. Also saw a Merc CL55 AMG manage a 1.03 whilst sounding like a mighty great thunder storm on wheels. Awesome.

Hopefully see one or two of you their this Sat 24 Apr.

I see Haddock is sneaking in some more track time!

Well done mate I see those times are heading down. I really wish I could get there but I have promised myself that I won't track the car monthly.

How are the tyres looking after your 2nd track day?

Warning thread hijack ahead

One thing I have found out about Qld Raceway is that if the circuit is not booked out for the day you can just go out there for a fang. The cost is $75 for an afternoon. What if we could get a group of 5 or 6 RX8s together and get out there for an afternoon. We would get basically unlimited track time without the waiting time that you have to endure when going to the sprints. The downside is that we probably have to do this on a week day as the circuit books out during the weekends. Would we have enough interest here to organise an afternoon like this? I reckon it would be awesome.

End of thread hijack

Hey Smoothy,

Too much of a bargain not to go with the French car guys; already paid for the licence so the day fee was nearly nothing, plus there were only 4-5 groups of six at most... Could have gone another session or too if I was inclined, but as you mentioned I didn't feel like punishing the brakes and tyres any further.

I think that experience may be very similar to the one you're suggesting and I reckon it's a top idea. Difficult though, with everyone's different work commitments. Get a bunch of mates in other cars too and it'd be a laugh. Hey Hymee bring on the big LS1s

Cheers!

Yeah I would be keen to do something during the week, but I am in canberra until at least mid june. So couldn't do it until after that.
I already knew you could hire the track like that, but it is not timed so you need someone to go who will time it for you.

Update on the track day, I won't be able to attend now. I have to move a shed that I am putting my drag car parts in.

Then sunday and monday I am stripping the car in prep for the roll cage.

Nice times Haddock!

If you are going to get some track tyres, you should find semi-comps worth 2 seconds a lap. Slicks are about 5 seconds a lap in my experience (LS1) - but if you go for slicks that categorise you up with the big boys in the "race" cars as far as points is concerned. I need to find out when my LS1 buddies are going out again. The "fast bastards" have gone up to the "level 2" sprints.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Be careful with hiring a track for a fang then promoting it as a timed event. Once timing comes into it there are insurance issues, scruitineering issues and paperwork issues that come into it. Timing must be unofficial and not promoted.

RX-8 smooth!,

Very interested in a track day. BYO timing staff is fine with me

As for the sprints, I won't be racing as I have made a few mods to the car so I don't want to race the car until I've checked the mixtures. Might be there to watch though.
