?'s about mazda alarm?

I've been thinking about getting the high spec mazda alarm fitted. dose anyone have it?
I'm wondering if it's a good choice. the sales girl for the extras couldn't tell me much.
can anyone tell me if it is to australian std's with 2/3 point immobilization and auto arming if you leave the car unlocked?
has anyone looked into part numbers yet? the americans only need to add a shock sensor; it that all the high spec allarm is in .au?

The standard security system is sufficient.
If you want to upgrade the security, I suggest you go to a Quicktrack unit or don't bother getting an alarm at all.
I mean, how often do you hear a car alarm going off in a carpark and pay any attention?

well I live in a small city quicktrack isn't available. the a nosie alarm is just a deterant. I don't need or want a super sensitive alarm just a australian standards one that will reduce insurance costs and lock the car if I forget. most theft in my area is opportunistic and only if you don't lock it down.
Up to you, of course, but how much insurance discount are you going to get, and might you not get insurance for the same premium, just by shopping around, rather than buying the alarm?
I reckon you never get your money back on a lot of these types of accessories. And, as above, to what extent is it a deterrant?
My 2¢ worth

well your right they are a ripoff especialy the mazda one and you don't get your money back. I have found that most insurance companies don't care about them as well so no discount.
as a deterant it's just the noise; it might be common to have 3 cars going off in your city but your lucky to hear one where I come from. as I said most theft in my area is opportunistic so if they test the door and it goes off they will move on. smash and grabs are rare and I'm not worried about people steeling it for joy rides. so I want something that flashes and makes a noise and I can get a discount on insurance if possible.

If you must persist with an alarm, then I recommend that you contact a company named "Repeller Australia".
They most likely make an alarm upgrade unit which integrates with the factory security system.
Most of their models are around the $350-$500 pricepoint supplied and fitted and are a cheap and reliable alternative to Mazda's alarm unit.

thanks I'll look them up thats why I was interested in the mazda upgrade as I want something that will intergrate with the mazda wiring and loom, I don't want some shmuck at autobarn or bris/strthfield carsound chopping and splicing my loom. I can do that myself
The only alarm I ever had fitted was a Mongoose 500 to my '92 323 SP. Got it from Amway
Most of all I liked it for remote entry, and the "blick-blick" arm/disarm sound.
But I guess a lot has changed since then.
Cheers,
Hymee

I have a Mazda fitted alarm, put in on the day I picked the car up (back in August). Agreed that the alarm is a noise making device, and not a deterrent to a GTA specialist when parked in a dark CBD street. But when parked in my driveway when I'm at home, I will hear it. I will do something about it. The thief might not want to steal the car, they just might want to have a look in the glovebox. That is what I want to deter by having the extra red flashing light in the cabin.
The extra sounds the alarm makes when disarming also let you know if someone has been interfering with the car while you've been away.

Why? Looking for tips on stealing my car ;-)
It uses the standard key. Lock "arms" - single beep.
Unlock "disarms" - double beep. If the car has been disturbed
there are three beeps.
Opening the boot without unlocking causes the alarm to go off. Locking the car when armed causes the alarm to go off.
There is red light that flashes in the centre console somewhere
when it is armed.
It makes a big noise when the alarm goes off. That's all I can remember at the moment. I'm into my third glass of Grosset Gaia.
