RX8 Engine in a Cobra
RX8 Engine in a Cobra Plane
Reading through the December issue of Recreational Aviation Australia i found out that our 4 port and 6 port RX8 engines are being tested and used in the Cobra PLANE
Tom Wickers is the man behind Cobra Aviation at Bayswater in Melbourne .
They have tested the 6 port RX8 and dynod it at 287 hp at 9400rpm and at 235 shaft hp .
Tom said that they prefer using the 4 port engine and they have limited the the rpm to 6800 this gives them 165hp.The 6 port engine they find to powerfull for their needs .
He said that they got the most Torque out of the engine by changing the manifold , but most of the power is gained by increasing the lenght of the runners .
He mentioned that the Microtech M800 was being used with no problems .
Planes do not need catalictic converters and dont have the exhaust restrictions like our cars , also weighing a mere 500 kg helps compared to our 1350 kg .
Taka maybe when you get the chance drop in to see them in Bayswater they may be able to properly tune your ECU .
cheers
