It's ok ;)
Not that one.

The latest one, it's coming out soon. I should said the Front bit was about 80% similar with RX8 ;)

cheers
Yun

The concept model was destined to have the rear freestyle doors but it has been dropped to ordinary doors by Mercedes.

THE CAR IS THE NEW CLS f%$%^ UGLY .

CHEERS
MICHAEL

ypwpat 03-12-2004 07:12 PM

sorry Michael it's not CLS that are copying ;) but well you can say they do copy the freestyle door. But now they copied the face :D
The Eye and the Front Fender ;) But i should said it almost Identical except you can place the Mercedes Grill on the Mazda Logo thing ;) eheheheh

It all goes round and round. :)

One of the earlier Mercedes sports had a roof very similar to the the RX8. MGs had freestyle pillarless doors on their K1 sports sedan 70 years ago!! etc.

I had a very knowledgeable friend (a car enthusiast and a Service Manager of many years standing) walk round the RX8 a few months ago and reel off quite a list of design elements from other cars that he could see hints of in the RX8 lines.

About the only part that I can't see any parallels to (many from the earlier days of Lotus, Lola, etc) is the back end and boot.

The New Mercedes CL class

Here you go finally, got the scanner fix :)
So what you guys think? :D

Astor 03-13-2004 12:02 PM

rip off

rotarenvy 03-13-2004 04:14 PM

the sides do look exactly the same as the rx-8 especially the character line and the pumped guards.

Mercedes drivers mustn't know how to park if they need sensors on the front bumper to tell them they are about to hit something :)

pricer01 03-13-2004 04:20 PM

rotorenvy

Its actually a device to alert the driver to any nearby RX8s so they can take evasive action. Imagine how angry they would get seeing a car that looks twice as good of 20% of the price ... heheheheh

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

AMG 03-13-2004 05:03 PM

copy cats!

timbo 03-13-2004 06:37 PM

Nice looking car, and to think, we have one with better performance and handling, at less cost :p

sco 03-14-2004 06:20 AM

That's two. First my Laser Lynx, and now my RX-8.

Hymee... can't see any grille in that air dam.

Hymee 03-14-2004 06:29 AM

Sco,

Aish 03-16-2004 05:10 AM

Yep, just copying the Lynx and the RX8. What's wrong with Merc? Have they run out of ideas? What are they going to copy next?!?

playa78 03-16-2004 11:55 PM

looks like hyundai is getting into the 'freestyle door' thing.
interestingly their one has B-pillar built into both front and rear door and looks like u can open the rear one directly.
it's only a concept though

oh there is also Nissan that's half 4wd/SUV/Coupe type vehicle that has 'freestyle' doors too. couldn't find pictures anywhere but saw it on a British mag.

BVD 03-17-2004 07:02 PM

Interesting link to that Hyundai car Playa78.

There seems to be quite a revival of the 'freestyle' door configuration. Mazda even use it on one of their Bravo utes.

Ageo 03-17-2004 07:07 PM

the only reason why i like em is the looks, and compactability. But to get in is a pain, like when your parked on the side of the road and some1 has to get in the back with cars flying past close by, hehe i now understand why they are called suicide doors because if some1 is standing inside the door and some1 hits it lol (your gone basically).

playa78 03-17-2004 07:55 PM

yeah.. and it's a bit of a pain to get in/out when u are in the car park =) but oh that style. it's worth all the pain >_<
