RX-8 Sums
Today's "The Australian" motoring page ran an article on the new Peugot 407 diesel coupe. Besides being heavy, ugly, and having mediocre handling (and did I mention being French-made) it seems quite a good car. They stacked it against the Alfa Brera, the BMW 323 coupe and surprise, the RX-8 leather pack. The price difference quoted is $12,300. The difference in fuel consumption is 4.1L/100km. So at say $1.30/L, the difference is $5.33/100km. The way I figure it, you have to drive 230,800km in the Pug to make up the difference in purchase price.
Now let me see... do I balance environmental responsibility and $12,300 extra and driving a heavy pig for over a quarter of a million kilometres against, well, fun?
Me, I feel good that someone else out there is driving a Prius to make up for my profligacy. I call it growing old disgracefully.

Great post Labby.
With you all the way on that. Shows how uneconomic some of these diesels really are.
Hey, where's Timbo when you need him.
More to the point, is that Gomez I see getting out his Clooney photo again...

With exxy, slow crap like the Pug and Brera though, hanging on to the RX8 is an easy choice for me. Even the BMW coupe is boring IMHO but I can understand the seduction of the 335i drivetrain (as others have, ahem, mentioned).

Good call Timbo...where is Kev? He disappeared once for about 9 months, made a brief return, thence nichts.
Are you out there prowling but never posting Kev?
