just got back from checking it out
the interior is nice with leather e-brake (i want!~) and console but not too much difference.
the one thing I did notice was how smooth the gear shift is.. I didn't think my 8 was that smooth even b4 installing RP shifter... i don't know if they improved it or not but there was not a single notcy feeling that I used to get from shift from 1st to 2nd.. it felt less precise as a result however.. somewhat similar to Integra type S.. the wheel is also little bit more polished and also greyish (like very light gunmetal grey). beige interior wasn't to my liking although it is better than black leather. I like the red/black two tone interior much much better, but then again it was one of the attraction for me in getting 8.
all in all very nice and will probably see a few around even though it's limited to 100 something
oh, my friend loved the sound of hymee exhaust on mine and wants to change it once he runs the car in. I will expect that commission cheque to my mail hymee

Hi....

Seems like My Car has already been introduced to some of you from my friend playa78, and i thought it was wise to introduce myself too... :p

I live in Sydney, and I own possibly one of the first RX-8 Special Editions out there.

Like Playa78 said, I am planning on getting the Hymee (as it looks like everyone prefers the hymee over the hks and hi-tech) coz it sounds awesome.

Any ideas whether anyone's got their air intake sorted out yet? Do most rx-8 owners perfer k&n? or are there any other brands people suggest in getting?

I heard that there is also a turbo charger out for around $7000 Australian dollars for the rx-8 according to the sales guy at Mazda.

Will try to post some photos when i get off work from Wednesday.

Anyhow, hope to see your sydney rx'ers soon on the next drive day...

Cheers,

Frankie.

Welcome Frankie

First up, spill the beans! What colour, and what was the on road cost?

There have been numerous air intake experiments. To my knowledge, no-one has produced definitive evidence of a measurable improvement, other than butt-dyno impressions, and noise. The standard intake is pretty well sorted, but if you want noise, then there are a number of choices.

Frankie welcome.

1) Hymee is good

2) K&N intake has poor idling problem and the risk of sucking hot air in. There is a RacingBeat REVi intake that the American likes.

3) Turbo charged? Without proper tuning, exhaust, intake and take care of the oil and water cooling, it will be very risky. You need to upgrade brake and suspension to complete the package. People get 4 seconds per lap in Tsukuba by suspension tyre and brake alone. There is forum member in Japan done a 1"08 in Tsukuba with suspension and brake upgrade. I doubt putting a turbo will be any faster with other stuff stock.

hey guys...
thanks for all your support.
I might wait and see if REVI comes back with sweet dyno results, i think the autoexec is a little too pricy for me SH Hyung.

Anyway, I basically have the one that is posted on this thread, the radient ebony one with beige leather inside (which kinda looks purple under halogen light, black in dark, and browny in sun light - what a colour, eih? :p)
i paid around 66, including the on road and luxury car tax.

But like most other guys here, I'm eager to get some tuning done, so...

** Deleted **
Hopefully by the time i reach 1000k's on the clock, i'll be able to get the hymee installed.

As always, hope to see you guys on the next drive day, and will post pictures on Wednesday night, after I give it a good scrub and wax it up with my favourite Zaino Z2.

Cheers.

Frankie -- just a word of advice. Read the forum rules especially rule 6, and other FAQs on user behaviour. I know it is tempting to have a boast about your latest kill, but it is not wise and can get you banned.

Thanks Timbo for the pointer to the forum rules I had not spotted them before. Interesting reading!
However just a slight correction , I think you may have been referring to rule 6 not rule 8

Ah... thanks for pointing that out...

One question : Anyone notice that when u first get the car, it kinda makes grinding noises? from the engine bay?
It's kinda gone now, but i feel that the sound was there on the very first and second day i had the car. Should i direct it to mazda? I mean, the problem cannot be re-occurred...

The car does an ABS brake self test after every start when the car reaches about 10kph (fwd or reverse). It sounds like graunch/thump.....maybe that is what you're hearing.

Frankie, is that the noise that I heard last time?
RX-8 does make ABS self test noise when starting but,
i don't know if that sound was the ABS self test..
it was evident when we tried to rev the engine.. maybe a slight loose bolt somewhere.
