Funny how most people talk about the RX-8 in terms of performance, i.e., speed, acceleration, handling etc. Few talk about safety. I'm here to tell you its one safe car. On my way to work today, I avoided an otherwise sure-fire collision. I had the right of way on a main road, travelling around a sweeping bend at near speed limit (about 58kph I think) with a minor road making a T-junction on my left at the bend. A Camry rolls up to the intersection, doesn't see me (can't imagine how, bright red car, perfect visibility) and proceeds across at the last moment in front of me. Instinctively, I slammed on the brakes and twisted the wheel violently to the right. The car behaved with immaculate poise, steering around the idiot, maintaining a perfect track. Had I tried it on my previous ride (no ABS or DSC), I would have slid into a serious collision.

This is one little labrat who will never, ever drive without DSC, anytime, anywhere. I think that if I was buying another car where DSC was an option, I'd put it way above alloy wheels, and all the other doo-dads and rice stuff. I read an article on a on-line motoring magazine which states that in the USA they reckon that cars equipped with DSC have a 30% less chance of a collision.

 

Labrat 30% of DSC, 70% driver to aviod this sort of collsion. Well done. Watch out for a Camry driver like me during the weekdays on the Princes Highway D:D
