Given the info that you have provided, yes I would tend to agree...more than a cosmetic upgrade to the 6.

Back to the thread point, I think I stated before that my money is on what Gomez pointed out as well as a small alteration to the body to fall in line with the new Mazda 6 and Mazda 2 look.

The big thing about that is the quality of the panelwork. Mazda's materials technology is now so good that they can consider some very radical designs. That vehicle appears to be designed more for fuel economy than outright performance, possibly even for electric motors at the rear wheels.
What odds Mazda bring out the first true hybrid sportscar within the next 5 years?

They have a new resin paint out that prevents chips.

I've got it on my fiberglass front end now.

They = ?. How does it colour match? One of the issues is that the metal body parts reflect paint differently from FRP so its a lot harder to match colour. When you go with paint that is "radically" different I would expect more issues with matching. Can you point us to some picks of it?

 

From experience I can tell you, its a new car market. Its VERY Hard to sell a used car even at its redbook value.

When you are struggling to get rid of a car, you have very few people looking and the few potential buyers looking for all excuses to get the price dropped, Revolvers point is well made.

Before the CX-7 my wife had a Ford Focus. It took us over 4 months to sell and in the end we dropped the price nearly 5k from the redbook price just to get some interest and we still had to knock off 400$ for paintwork related issues.

 

Well, you're completely right! Respraying the front of the car opens speculation to the possibility of the car being involved in an accident along the way ... therefore the little chips are ok.

Scratches and dents on the other hand will make a difference depending what they are.

 

That's why I'd never sell a car privately in this market ... only trade or write off ... I doubt a private sale would pay off much over a trade in price.

I was offered $21000 for my Integra Type R DC2 4 years ago for trade in. But I sold it for $28000 privately after 3 days in carsales.

 

There are as many reasons to buy or not buy a given car as there are buyers, so these subjective points of view are not worth debating. One person may like the fact that the car has been freshened up, another may see it as a reason to carp about potential accidents.

As the rest of my paintwork is still in good nick, the front does stand out a little as looking a little careworn. Maybe those awful car bras have a purpose after all, lol.

Anyway, we're getting off topic. Hopefully the new car does have improved paintwork but I think it's more the state of our roads that is the real culprit.

 

I've had similar experience with trade in v private sale. If you're patient, I believe the latter almost always returns a better price.

 

Same car now has been sitting in car sales for 3 months with NO interest and offering less than redbook.

 

What is the red book value of a 1999 or 2000 Type R integra with 100000km in the odo. There are 3 in VIC that are selling for $19000-21000. One even ask for $27000. I sold mine for $28 4 years ago.... which is red book (top of the range).

DC2 are much finer and rarer then DC5 *(which I think will be hard to sell)

 

Red Book/Glass's values are pretty much irrelevant for 'rare' cars; you need to advertise the cars where the afficianados (with money!) can see it and will respond.

 

The new "Zoom Zoom" magazine mentions (p43) yet another concept sports car being released at the October Tokyo show. This would not seem to be the right setting to release a new production sports car, and thus cosmetic enhancements rather than a brand new model RX-8 could be a more likely scenario.
