Hey Rik,

You will have to come along to the next get together and show us!

What about some pics of the wheels in the mean time!

IPod adapter

Hi Guys,
I pickup a new 250HP 185KW RX8 in Japan this week with the optional 25000 Yen IPOD adapter.
Its works OK but no song data on the screen just file number and track number like a CD.
I saw this with the Japanese nav but since I'm a aussie in Tokyo the Japanese NAV was not a option for me. But the IPOD with the BOSE option sound bloody good.
Cheers,
Garry

I called my local stealer the other day....they quoted me $400 installed for this gizmo seems a little steep for me! iTunes is crapola but this is just daylight robbery!

Nope but we have a bland looking AM FM tuner in the dash from the previous owner...also found that the previous owner never logged an engine change with motor reg... the hassles we are having trying to get the bloody thing registered are driving us to despair!

Got the Ipod adapter installed

The sound through the Bose system is very good but it is almost impossible to know what song is coming up next.

It was part of my 40000km service but I think it was just over $300 installed.

Sorry, I read through this whole thread ... but from what y'all are saying the Mazda unit doesn't allow you to see what track is playing on the dashboard, but does allow you to change tracks using the steering wheel controls?

If that's the case ... I'm not too fussed, I may just go in and buy it if it's only a few hundred!

Thanks for the info. For those of you in SA Paradise have healthy margins!! Shop around!

Timbo I am beginning to hate iTunes....getting feedback now...

I will have to investigate some more I think with the other dealers here!

I just got a quote for the unit (not including installation) from Mazda NZ, and they wanted:

Switching Box: NZ$257
IPOD Adaptor Cable: $255

For a total of $578 Kiwis.

That's outrageous! I laughed at them and told them they weren't going to sell many of them.

I'm assuming you need the cable as this will be a special plug that goes into the back of the box.

So I guess I'll have to track down a third party solution or go the FM transmitter route (sadly).

$255 for a CABLE!! You were right to tell 'em they're dreamin'! I'd suggest it is probably only one of a number of USB shapes, with the iPod connector at the other end. $50 max, surely

Might be worth someone having a chat to Darrin Ray at Gosford Mazda

Does anyone know how much the cassette deck cost?

Reason I ask: I may want to change from iPod down the track, and wouldn't mind being able to listen to tapes from time to time.

Seems far superior to whatever it is Mazda is offering, as the ipod controls are invaluable for finding things. Steering wheel is only used to skip tracks and change volume.
i've been using it for last 2 yrs...
check out my dreaded iPod thread with pictures and videos on the audio section of the forum.

Nice setup playa. You did yours almost exactly like mine.

The only difference is that I continued running my wire into the center console box just past the drink holders. It gave me a good storage spot without getting in the way of my drink holders (I used plastic 3M clips to run the wire along the edge). Also kept my wire long enough so that anyone in my car can hold the ipod on their lap and play DJ.

Still a highly recommended product for anyone who values a reliable and functional connection to their music.
