RX-8 convertible

Found this doing the rounds.

Jap owner has a huge stereo in it but I was more interested in the missing roof.

re..........

No you did said that.

It looks nice because it is white. I don't think I am getting my chainsaw out of the mort... yet.

What will the effect of not having the roof and shorter b pillar on the 8?

You'd have to think it would have a lot less torsional rigidity in the body = worse handling around corners??? Especially given some of the strength in modern cars actually comes from the fixed windows.

Man, that looks hot. I know it's not nearly as stiff and solid, but it looks incredible. I hope Mazda makes a convertible RX-8 (or 7?)

There is still a targa like bar across the B pillar section, but one piece bendable metal is better than nothing I guess

Would need a lot of boxing somewhere. Have owned a number of rag tops, and love jumping in others.

I know the stats would say different but my 56' A seemed to flex a whole lot less than a couple of modern rag tops I've been in lately Peugeot, SAAB (99'/00model). The MG was built with a couple of pieces of train track which everything was bolted to.

Still an 8 with no flex, a targa and about 240kw would be a nice package.

I am sure that's what the boxes in the back of the thing are for... They look like a big sound system, but they are really the box work to stop the car caving in just behind the front seat! :D

I think this is a japanese FESTIVAL! and they are street parading. thats why they have the big stearo in the back. and yes it's got extra b pillar support behind the seats...

I'm gonna buck the trend here and say that white thing is FUGLY!!!

Personally, I think targa tops are clumsy.

True convertibles are always heavier and never handle as well as the lighter coupe version (think M3, etc).

I even hate sunroofs.

I'm also curious to know how the suicide door will work without a top locking point (integral to the way the thing works).

I want to know what is behind the 8 in the parade. It must be more interesting, as the crowd are all looking at it, not the ragtop 8.

Apart from the big black box, it looks OK. So does locks non-hooped version.

Cheers,
Hymee.
