Red Brake Caliper
Red Brake Caliper
I finally got around to paint those plain looking standard calipers yesterday after thinking about it over a year
it ended up being more work than I initially thought but luckily one of my helped me out with it (did most of the work :D )
you are looking to spend a whole afternoon for the work.
the results are simply amazing. I used brake caliper spray paint from VHT which is about $20 from Repco.
here is some pictures up for your viewing pleasures~

i was going to do the front and do the rear next week, since I had only two jacks, but one of my friend lent me additional jack so ended up doing all four.
I don't think I could have done it again next week. it's fair bit of work
you first have to clean out the brake dust with metal brush by scrubbing scrubbing and scrubbing..
and then clean it with degreaser.
dry it clean.
have newspapers covering all bits.
spray.
wait till it dries.
spray 2nd coat.
let it dry again.
put the brake pads back in.
put the wheels back in.

or maybe gold? (which my friend did on his black integra and looks nice too :o )
The matter of colour is not important.... Black and red is great - to match the AP racing brakes.
I will show you something in the other thread. Only if I have 900,000 Yen to spare :rolleye:

Hey Playa
Been off air for ages!! Did mine about six months ago with the duplo brush version. Still looks mint! Definitely the cheapest tart up you can do, if it does take a day to do!
You need a couple of Polak's decals. He uses them as masks but mine have laste 3 months so far as stick on and look great.
Just put them on the front rather than both.
Well done, got the same shift boot as yours as well and that's also a nice cheap but classy addition.

hey miker,
yeah I thought about those decal's initially.. but just ended up doing it without them for now.. do they stick ok? no problem with melting from brake calipers getting hot, spray from car wash etc? anyway, if I had ordered them with the shift boot it would have been good.. I don't want to end up paying for shipping everytime they fall off
yeah, no problems as yet with mine, and they do look great :D
love the shift boot. I took a risk getting the red one but so grateful i did.
it just brightened up the interior and makes it look so much classier then the old black one~

Mate PM me your address, I bought 4 stickies and have used 2. Thought i'd hang on to the others for replacements but they are hanging on pretty well so far. I've not blasted them directly but have had months of washing!
I'll post them too u, am in Melb next week!
If you're at the Nationals I'll scrounge a lap with you, will have to leave my baby in the shed in Auckland I'm afraid!
Cheers Mike

If you can stand driving an 8 that isn't red you're welcome to borrow mine for some laps.
In my book anybody prepared to fly from NZ for the event deserves a favour!
Dave
hehe, me giving you a ride for a lap is no problem but it looks like we are not allowed to have passengers at the Nats.. I talked to the officials (Timbo, revolver) about bringing a friend so he can join me as the "navigator" but they advised me no due to legal and safety issues even if he wears helmet and pay..
Wow that does look like a lot of work, especially sticking those papers all around the wheel. I just took off the whole caliper and painted it away from the car. This way I was positive that the whole caliper was painted, even the back. Taking the caliper off and putting it back on was a breeze. The only problem is that you may need another person to help you bleed the brakes.
