I recon the shitta is now run in and took it out for a spin up the mountains,handles well it has a lot of more feel than my last ride I found it seems to plough more than a snow plough when the road gets a little greasy,brakes seem to be lacking once a little heat gets in the discs, any suggestions have stock tyres & brakes.

 

Shitta...what a classic! The only problem I've got with the brakes is the amount of brake dust they generate which makes cleaning a pain in the ***.

If you go anything else you probably won't get as good as a grip as you would with OEM.

My 2c worth....

 

Maybe buy some wheels that are the colour of brake dust?

 

My OEM brakes produce remarkably little dust, but then I use MT engine braking most of the time.

My daughter's Mazda6 and my wife's Lex is250 (both AT) produce a lot of dust, but as most women they're on the brakes a lot.

 

AT cars are generally heavier on the brakes since it doesnt use the engine to brake

 

I really don't see the point in having a car with excellent OEM brakes and not using them. I'm happy to wash the dust off.

automag, have your shitta's brakes checked. Fade is not a common occurrence.

As for the so-called ploughing, didn't you have AWD before? You will notice a difference in the wet, etc...

 

Thanks for info, i recon the dirtier the wheels the more you are driving the shitta, after looking at the yanks forum i have ordered a set of hawk hp plus front & rear pads.
yes my other shitta was a subbie wrx, big HP machine the rx8 handles much better and has a lot of feel thru corners, just has less torque than my grandmother, and she is dead
maybe i have to get use to that annoying buzzing sound and drive by ear, i guess much better than having an alarm clock with a 50W halogen bulb telling you "wake up spanker and change gears"
keen to fit new pads and drive it like the ad say zoom zoom

 

You want good initial bite then Hawks may not be your cup of tea.

Then again I can recommend you lots of pad, but just stay away from EBC. There are more pads that are cheaper, better and do not eat the rotor that much.

Oh I am not 100% sure Hawk pads are rotor friendly either... I just do not have good interest in them when their heat rating is low.

 

That's interesting Taka. I've been running EBC Red Stuff's for well over two years now and my rotors are fine.

What are your competing recommendations?

 

I had a bad exprience with EBC reds, with the rotor totally worn out by one pad that only lasted 4 track days. I am on my third Project mu pads and it is not as badly worn after one pad of EBC reds.

You can try the following Jap pads, they are pads for street/track mix

Project Mu HC+
Endless Type R

If you want something from Europe, there is Ferodo and Pigid pads which are way better than EBC pads. I particularly recommended a few times to use the Ferodo 2500/3000 (I cannot remember the model number) pads on track days.

But I will stick with Project Mu HC+. Although it is not listed for S tyres (like semis), it is still ok for a few laps; running longer and real racing then it is another matter. There are circuit racing specs (like 900i) but the down side is attack rotor more. There are even the high end stuff which I have a set at home (Racing 999) as to gather dust...

Oh HC+ is fantastic on the road with a great initial bite. The downside is lots of dust, but they are durable and wear really well till the end of its life.

 

Oh I have complete confidence on P Mu pads... I wonder if Jamie Wincup is on those on this V8 supercars....

Some of them are running P Mu H18 I am sure

 

I run project mu HC+ as well and can't be happier.

Having said that, I sell EBC reds and haven't heard any complaints from people buying them from me. I personally don't use it because I go to track every now and then and can't be bothered swapping pads. You can use EBC reds on the track but I don't think it'll be as good as project mu HC+

 

Er... umm... no, I'm just driving a stick the way it's supposed to be [engine braking much of the time, which also puts you in the proper gear for your next spirited acceleration].

 

Mais Oui, but most women follow too close and therefore use the brakes far more often, regardless of transmission. One of my wife's girlfriends uses two feet in her AT (humanely not an '8) and often rides the brakes. Her rims are black with dust!
