I was surprised that was the case when you told me on the phone. But yet again, it is not the first time I hear "A" machanic that does that. Thinks just get out of hand, and even my mechanic does that to my friend when he was not pushed (with a whip in your right hand).

Good luck to the turbo kit... keep us informed.

EZZY 09-20-2005 02:42 AM

its going to be interesting....... cant wait for the result
the boost bug is getting bigger each week  :o

rotarenvy 09-20-2005 02:45 AM

why did you go custom and not the greddy?

The Greddy kit was not what going to give me the power I wanted ...I thought it would initially suffice but Stupidly thought I could do better; Plus I dont work and wanted a challenge...

This challenge proves to be testing but on the other hand sooooo rewarding ...much more than bolting on a kit

I am really enjoying the metamorphisis :D

I have biult many engines and love engineering ..so marrying the two would get all my creative juices flowing :)

Shopping for some oil and new spark plugs today...Time is of the esscence

Im thinking of either Fuchs 5w40 synthetic or Mobil 1

and for the plugs Some NGK 10s . Does anyone know where I can get them in OZ. Global spares doesnt even have a part no. for them ....TAKA?? anyone

Intercooler piping should get here today :D

Smile Lots

Dave

takahashi 09-20-2005 10:27 PM

I got my NGK 10s plug from Fujita Engineering ... it was via japanparts.com

RXP33D 09-20-2005 10:53 PM

Why not order them through mazda? Or are they different to the stock plugs which are crap?
How much are you looking at for a set of sparks?

takahashi 09-21-2005 12:28 AM

In MazdaManiac experience on the tubro. A colder set of plug is advised.

Certainly, the way I read it in the Jap Magazines (RX-7 Magazine), most RX-7 are using NGK 10 or 9 for their plugs and they said it will helps with misfiring on high revs.

Yes, I don't last as long as hotter plugs and the mag said most RX-7 HAS TO change their plugs every 8000km

I am trying a set of NGK 10 and NGK 9 on my car. I think it will not last more than 30000km ;) but I will change it after 15000km. It has only 5000km so far and mostly on highway. Yes it helps with the roughless of the rev at 8000rpm @ 4th gear ;)

timbo 09-21-2005 01:57 AM

C'mon Dave...spill the beans...FFS, forget oil and spark plugs....what's the turbo? ;) :D

We are using for the prototype a custom unit comprising of a t3/t4 SETUP .Utilising revoloutionary exremely efficient ceramic bearings

The guy is responsible for building the turbos for the fastest rotaries in the world...He really knows his stuff

We are mounting it direclty to the exhaust ports to eliminate lag ..the manifold and turbo is the same weight as the OEM manifold alone !!( light stuff )

I will post pics ..Manifold done.... :) turbo neeeeeeeeeeeearly

Intercooler should be finished off tommorow

I have received a some interest about the possibility of purchasing one of my kits ..

As I am not working currently Im sure I can put a package together for forum members We'll see ;)

Dave

timbo 09-21-2005 04:00 AM

Can't wait to see...and you know this place -- build a kit that offers 200+RWKw for $5k, and you'll be beating 'em off ;)

Hmm...ceramic bearings....so no oiling issues??...interesting :)

Hmm...ceramic bearings....interesting :)

I am confident of achieving 300+ RWHP ..but I dont shoot my mouth off without facts ...This turbo can flow 450 hp so we're not restricted in that department..

Its ceramic composite bearings will spool up 20% quicker than Garett ball bearings..I have a test where a WRX using ball bearings has a dyno test ..and when the Exact turbo is replaced with these new ceramic types..the car made the same power 1000RPM lower ...Ill have to dig this test up and post it

As for pricing .......I could have stage 1 as an affordable option then Stage 2..3.....Lets wait and see :)

B.....Happy

Dave

takahashi 09-21-2005 05:16 AM

Do they just do bolt on, or do they crack your engine open and do overhaul there!?

I know of the Revolution company in Japan offers overhaul of engine with modification of the apex seal, side seal, and corner seal groove - I think it is on the rotor?! Modified the rotor ring, polish port and engine balancing.

They have stage II overhaul for turbo RENESIS where they enlarge port, and change to FD3S apex seals.

Their site is closed but it is a 2nd liner of rotary mod company in Japan - but they are still good.

Any of those work can be done in Australia - I think something to keep in mind down the road.

They said with this overhaul - engine will feel like 'brand new'

Ciao 09-21-2005 07:11 AM

Thanks TAKA, thats good info to know

the FD guys have been using ceramic seals for their rebuilds.

so they should be... after a proper run in of course...
has anyone noticed every 2nd "RX" for sale trading post ad had "freshly rebuilt engine", "running in atm".... :D

I can't see the first 4 attachments nor the flywheel/clutch one.
Gives me an error after clicking them.

The turbo and airgun show up fine.

Dave

adrian-1 09-22-2005 01:42 AM

Nope, still nothing. They show up as a box with red x's now.

I've been following your thread for awhile.
I may go custom turbo in the future. My Greddy turbo is only getting me 220whp now. I'm waiting for my Interceptor EMS to arrive and hopefully get more hp. I don't know how long it'll last once I'm at 10-12psi all the time.

dave, give one of those big rotary shops a call, they will have some in stock.
or ask them for the part number, mr. autobahn should be able to order them for you ;)
isnt mazfix in QLD? ;)

Hymee 09-23-2005 03:11 AM

Did you say earlier you were mounting the turbo straight to the exhaust ports?

Hymee 09-23-2005 11:15 AM

Thanks for the clarifaction. So what is new/different about mounting a turbo direct onto the exhaust.manifold, and how does that eliminate lag?

Cheers,
Hymee.

Ciao 09-23-2005 06:03 PM

The turbo itself is approx 4in from the exhaust port..we designed the manifold that way ....so instant spooling ..some turbo kits advertised are mounted high up in the engine bay causing long exhaust runners and longer spool rates....

the turbo is moderately sized but has large wheels , and with these bearings SHOULD spool up Greddy Style ..super quick ( their turbo is much smaller AND no ball bearings..)

Hey just thought of something..
1. your blower alone is about as heavy as my entire kit :)
and 2. just your management alone cost more than what it cost me to build my entire kit .....he he :p

Luv ya long time

Dave

Dave

what about exhaust velocity? restricted port runners, sharp bends, changes in pipe diameter all affect exhaust velocity.

Ciao 09-23-2005 07:25 PM

Good point

If you have a look at the pikkies of the manifold you will see smoothe flowing bends ,which will aid air speed ...the Greddy manif has insanely sharp bends.. And the fact that it is so close to the engine block will again help get exhaust air out. The pipe diameter is constant throughout the manifold ..thus maintaining airspeed

We will not know anything concrete until we get her on the dyno....remember this project is not even a week old.....patience grasshopper

B..... Cool

Dave

Ciao 09-23-2005 07:32 PM

Its time to make the adjustments to the compressor housing ...is proving to be quite a toil.
We need to make the necsesary bends from the outlet but dont want to restrict flow

should take most of the day .....spewin......

Also making a custom exhaust ....also a bloody pain ...Cant get anyone to supply me with the exhaust I need!!

If ( should say when )Im there in October you can take it for a spin ....and anyone else who wants to experience a thrusted 8. :D

Timbo ,weve got a few options with management,,it most probably will be a Chip Torque option as Mazda Aus. has already spent the money and time ironing out the bugs ,,,,,it comes with a 2 stage ,boost controller ,,,can you believe that..

Mega Cool  ...stay tuned
