OT: Melbourne Cup

did anybody win?
I had Makaybe Diva and Xllecent and eyepopper on for trifecta.
On Jeune comes in from nowhere to ruin it for me..

sweeps only for me this year... i think all my horses are still running in the race......

I had sweeps for Vinne Roe and Umbulla - they are nowhere seen

Timbo, you are right. If I put money on a horse, it will be then Diva since I know none of the others

I backed the Diva but, as ever when you win, not for enough.

Cancel out the various sweeps I entered and I think I just about broke even.

whats everyone's thoughts about watering the track prior to the race?

didnt bother to bet on anything this year....

I reckon it's one of those things that'll keep conversation going in pubs for years, but the simple truth is turf clubs have been doing these sorts of things for years under various 'unofficial' policies justified in broad terms by 'track safety'. Remember, it was Vinnie Roe's trainer who was making the most noise, and it obviously didn't do anything for that horse's run.

Had lunch with a mate who's a bigger mug punter than me. He won a trifecta on the race -- $5k. He paid!

heard on the news this morning, the trifecta paid something like $77xx.......
wish i knew the numbers

Well I just found out I won $2k yesterday,and I didn't even make a bet. One of my horses won a race in Darwin yesterday, I'm happy with my cut
