One oil cooler on Oz models?

When I was waiting for my paperwork at the dealership today I noticed on the car I test drove that there was a bit of plastic on one side behind where the fog lights would go (it was a standard model) and in front of where the second oil cooler should go.

So... do we only have one oil cooler as opposed to 2 on the US models? Maybe mazda doesn't think our traffic is as bad hence we don't need extra cooling for when we're stationary?

Only the hi-power gets 2 coolers.

Low power(or auto's) get 1.

Unless mazda have changed their minds..

Aussie 6MT high power

I'm assuming the Aussie 6MT engine is high power.. seeing it generates 177kW (= 237hp).

Stuck my head down there to see how I could fit some mesh of some form and was suprised to see a bit of plastic!

Assume nothing

Thanks.... made the mistake of assuming that the other one would in the same spot on the other side.

U.S. 6MT cars have one oil cooler on each side by each fog light.
Two oil coolers.

On the US manual cars, it is. Both oil coolers are plainly visible behind each of the foglights. Weird that you guys only appear to get one.

The plot thickens

Hmm... the plot thickens. I wonder what other differences there are between the engines then???

Maybe the missing power in US models is going into pumping oil

Lock & Load,

What did you use to protect the front of yours... and how did you fix it in place?

Cheers

So far i have kept that area near the oil cooler stock standard , i dont believe that a few flies or bugs will effect the coolers i just keep it clean .
Placing a screen in front of oil coolers may alter the temperatures causing other problems , i am sure if something needed to have been done mazda would have fixed it .

I just washed my car for te second time and noticed my RX-8 only had one oil cooler on the left side. On the right side was just a plastic blank. I was also wondering why our high power engines didn't need a second oil cooler. We probably also missed out on the tyre pressure monitor.

Spoke to mazda as to why the high power rx8 had only 1 oil cooler , as usual the answer had to be found after waiting for a while , i was told that because of different power outputs in australia and emission ,and temperature differences to the US cars we only needed 1 oil cooler.

IMO this answer is a lot of bull **** , id be more inclined to say that its purely a cost saving measure on mazdas behalf , i quired the temperature difference between the 52 states in US and the temperature here in australia .

MAZDA SHOULD NOT TREAT ALL ITS CUSTOMERS AS WOOD DUCKS.

So if you are serious about doing any racing in your rx8 youd better look at the oil cooler , and put in a second one as a safeguard .

Others should ring mazda ,and see what other B/S excuse they give others ????

Maybe Mazda Australia thinks that we will drive the RX-8 around at 60km/hr in 6th gear all the time.

What a joke! they should have saved even more money and just given us the low power engine and 5 speed gear box. What is the point of a high performance engine if you pull off components that were designed for it when it was performing to its potential.

How do we know that we got the high power engine anyway?

Annoyed. I'd rather they took away our climate control and given us a properly fitted out engine.

To me it seems odd that a 250 hp car needs 2 oil coolers but a 231 hp car needs only 1 oil cooler .

250 HP ,being US high power spec 2 OIL COOLERS .

231hp, being OZ high power spec with only 1 oil cooler i want to know WHY ??????????

As donald c said maybe we have been conned .

Maybe there is some fine print in the owner's manual that says that we have to park the car with the bonnet open to cool the engine after extended periods of hard driving (eg. >80km for more than 2mins).

I'd better go and grab my maginfiying glasses to pore over the manual tonight.
