Im going with RAA insurance, and leaving the car stock. If i were to get a turbo car, they will not cover me at all since im under 25.

Investing in more property is the smarter thing to do, but im still young and i want a nice car and enjoy life while studying. When i graduate, i don't think i will have time as i want to travel around alot for work.

I have changed my mind so much, and now its between the S2k and Rx8. Now im thinking hard on what im willing to lose; an extra two seat on the s2k, or more money for petrol on the 8.
In maintenance and servicing, are they around the same cost? Besides the 16s compared to the fat 18inch wheels.

The 350z is slowly coming off my list as its a two seater and will drain a fair amount of petrol too and the concept look may fade away while the 8 will keep its looks for years to come IMO.

I've had 5 new mazda's since 1992, and the scheduled servicing never seems ridiculously expensive. I get a different impression when I hear from Honda folk.

You could always ring Mazda and get the price for the scheduled service costs.

I'd have to check my bill, but my 40,000 was less than $200. The 60,000 is going to be a dear one though...

Cheers,
Hymee.

Looking at the service fee's for the rx8 I am shocked to say but my 2000 model Honda civic was consederably more to service.

I would be willing to bet that Honda will also charge more to service the s2000 than a base model 1.6L hatch.

And the RX-8 labour rate is the same as the other mechanics. Well I can only speak for my dealer. I know HSV mechanics used to command a higher hourly rate than normal Commodores. Well the service dept charged more, I don't know if they guys got paid more!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Yeah too many people dowmloading the **** from my site LOL :D

It is the RX-8 video clips that does it ... used up 3Gigbyte of transfer a day!
I cannot ask my fellow forum member for more ??

To be honest... it is a very tough choice between the 8 and the S2K at your situation. If you are single, looking for mod then.... I am leaning on the S2K since it has been around for a while and the mods are great. It is such a good car for track day and it is sexy.

If you are for adventure = you are planning to get married and have kids, RX-8 is for you. I think there will be more mods in RX-8 than S2000 at the end. I think the rotary is endless in modification compare with S2K by the looks of things.

^^ that's what I meant.... You don't always need 4 seats, but when you do.....

Enjoy your youth with a nice car, I say. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

OK.... I sold my e36 3.2L M3 for the 350Z and now... I am still missing my M3 power.... the only thing that the M3 cannot out perform the Zed are the turning ability (both in standard form) and the maintance costs...

As for the 350Z.... don't know if you know that australia market is gonna have a new revised zed coming out with 300HP up to 7000 rpm redline soon.... this new engine consists of VTC at the exhaust side as well as the intake side (current model), revised pistons, cam shafts, con-rods and the computer....etc.. It will be out at the end of Feb. so it might be worth taking a look at on that car! OH... and with a few new colour range too

cheers,

richie

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but this suggests the Z is more expensive to maintain ??

I was originally interested in the Z, but its interior style and limited luggage capacity really disappointed me

Ok, I am a closet M series BMW fan, too. I like the M3, especially the current model, and I have to say, that should my lotto numbers come up (this will require me to buy a ticket ) I'll be straight down to the dealer -- or more likely, over to Bavaria -- with my money down for an M5 or M6 :p

E36 M3's are a bit long in the tooth......... Zed's have cheap and nasty interiors............ S2Ks are fun but are too cramped........... the 8 just plain sucks............... petrol and oil that is.

PLES2K in the S2k and M3 forums
3FIFTYZ in the 350z forum
I have asked similar questions in each to see different views and to read up on the cars.

Im about 170cm tall and i sat in a Z, i felt like im in a tank and i can run anyone over.
Im going to have a 2nd look at a Blue 2002 s2000 sometime this week or next and ill update on what i think.

Have you had a really good look at the interior on the Limited Edition? The 350Z doesn't compare....it's not in the same league. The S2000 is too old......

Too old?! At least it is unique.... so as 350Z and RX-8. I will pass any of those choices.

At least he did not consider the so called "butt" ugly cars - namely, the EVOs, STi and the GTRs. EVO 4-5-6-7&8 look bloody much the same and how about the STi they all look the same...and I can never tear them apart :p

Not to mention the HSVs... oh at least they have the bloody number stuck at the back indicating the power of their bus size engines. I was going to suggest that figure was the number of km they can do in a tank, or the number of miles they can do with a set of tyres. One HSV owner told me it was his organ size it must be measured in nanameters :p

Where did you get that idea...? Under $70k is a good deal considering all the extra gear you get.
