Thanks to some helpful advice from Taka, Revolver and MissK regarding offset, rubbing etc, I've got my hands on a set of Rays Gram Lights 57 Maximum.

Nice present as others have said and not the lack of chrome makes the car look really nice. I have to say I don't like highly polished chrome wheels.

Careful parking now. At least if you scratch them you can easily hide the scratch!

Wheels are 18x8.5 +33 and 18x9.5+38 with 245/40 all around. I'm still looking for a set of 235's all around to get more stretch out of those walls.

Get 'dem 235's for the fronts. I'd keep 245's at least on the rears though...

 

That is a bit uneven in diameter?

9.5" wide in the rear - it is hard to squeeze a 235 in though. I am happy tracking with a 245 in the front and I don't see why driving on the road is any difference.

 

Uneven widths - I think diameter can be managed.

I only recommended 235's for his 8.5 fronts because I've had a good experience with a similar rim/tyre combo (but admittedly the same width all around) and have no reason to suggest 245's wouldn't also be a good fit for the fronts. As for the 9.5 rears, you're right - he'll need to manage diameter so as not to throw the DSC out.

 

I don't think it's possible to get 235's and 245's in exactly the same diameter is it? since the profiles only move by +-5% at a time there'll always be marginal differences.

I guess it depends on how sensitive the DSC is.

 

The DSC is fine on the setup so far. Based on experience, the only thing that throws the DSC is different tyres front to rear (soft vs stiff tirewalls).

What I dislike about the 245 all around is the height of tire wall front to rear. Too fat. I've noticed running stretched 245 on the 9.5 rim seems to have stiffen the rear up abit over bumps and bends. It helps when the stock rear suss is so soft.

If I'm running the 245 all round with these rims specs, whats my odometer out by?

Personally, I think staggered doesn't work well on the car (especially in NA form - not enough power) but there's been a lengthy debate about this in the technical section of the forum and I appreciate people hold different views.

I am totally lost of what you are saying there.

If you are talking about tyres - 235/40 and 265/35 are the 18" sizes people use in Japan - similar diameter. Will cause a different handling feel.

If you are talking about the size of rim and their offset?????? You have a wider wheelbase on your car compare to stock (ie left to right not front to back) - what do they feel like? If you have more power and transfer more weight to the rear while driving hard - what will the suspension reacts with a wider wheelbase in the rear.

Think in that way than get a suspension set up to suit so...

I was just referring to the simple matter of tyre and rim width. Questions of diameter and the staggered effect are something he has to work out.
