New RX8 Gearbox ?

I was told that the version 2 RX8 uses the Mazda 3 MPS Gearbox ? can anyone verify this ?

"Short and Precise – the Six-speed Manual Transmission
A six-speed manual gearbox makes driving the Mazda 3 MPS fun. Using a compact three-shaft design, it is roughly the same size as the five-speed manual of the standard Mazda 3 and, due to wider gear ratios, allows maximum utilisation of the car’s engine performance. Triple-cone synchronizers for the first three gears, along with double-cone synchronisers for fourth gear, ensure precise and clean shift characteristics ."

Cheers

I like its choice of words:

"due to wider gear ratios, allows maximum utilisation of the car’s engine performance"

in other words, weve placed the gearing so far apart the engine will have to work itself to get to the next gear

id say im more of a fan of close gear ratios

I dunno but from what I have heard the gear box in the new 8 has a much shorter throw between gears than our current models.

It is the MX-5 gearbox! It configure the same and even feel the same.

Not sure about the 4th gear but the 1st 2 gear is definitely shorter and need to change to 3rd before hitting 100

I'd doubt it is the same as the MPS 3 since the engine are North-south (rx8) compared to east-west in the 3. to many lay out issues to use the same box for both.

I bet my *alls that the FWD Gearbox in the MPS 3 has NO interchangeability with any of its components to the RX-8 and MX-5, I my time as Parts manager the 323 FWD gears and Bearings and input shaft and Main shaft and change forks and circlips and oil seals are ALL smaller in size and diameter when compared to RWD Mazda Gearboxes of RX-7,5,4,626,929.

So that salesman is a complete ****** for even suggesting it was so.
