The lack of Bluetooth and iPod connector is really poor form, IMO.

Where does the luxury car tax come into play - perhaps MA are deleting the goodies to keep it below the tax.
There again, how can a manufacturer sell the same goods in one country for $55 - 60k and the same thing in another country for $26k less - just about half price
It would be interesting to know the base manufacturing cost of an RX-8, probably less than $15k each.

So much for all models coming under the LCT threshold.

Lack of proper fruit and no power upgrade will kill it I reckon, particularly given fuel economy concerns. It'll limp along I suppose but I doubt it'll have anything like the sales success of version I.

Keeping my original until I can afford to say bye bye Mazda...

Yes Dave, I mean come on , NO iPod, No Bluetooth.
And the luxury does have the sunroof!..

I don't want a sunroof!, would much rather have the ipid and Bucktooth!
And all those other goodies the US gets.

I have seen too many sunroofs that give problems after a few years and rattles.

And yeah, it will limp along.

Sunroofs add weight in the worst spot to have additional weight in a car,the top. That's just my opinion preferring function over form..

less power (177kw to 170kw) and fuel economy worse (12.6 to 12.9)

What?! Still no Bluetooth or iPod! Lucky I didn't wait
but still cheaper for the GT model with all the fruit than I paid for the 'lightweight' model in 2003

No Ipod functionality, that is a surprise. It has been on other Mazdas in recent times. Bizarre!?

Let's face it, they're making enough money off their successful shopping trolleys not to give a crap about the RX8 until the second model comes along in 2010-11.

They've allowed their junior designers to play with lights and side skirts, told their engineers they can make changes that don't cost money and allowed the dealers to strip everything off it that doesn't make it go and flog those bits as accessories.

Cynical mid-life upgrade which they can shove up their **** as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the link. There's a related story as well following a test drive.

Reasonably positive stories but to be honest, looks aside, I think you'd achieve 90% of the update by just fitting sways and firmer shocks and springs to version I. I'm not sold on the final drive gear ratio change.

The halo's getting a bit rusty IMHO...

Agree completely. I have a feeling in light of the increased fuel usage (with fuel prices increasing bigtime), possible Rx7 in future and Mazda announcing a 30% reduction in fuel consumption by 2010, I suspect sales might suffer. Sad, because it's an amazing car on many levels.

I reckon the increase in fuel consumption must be due to the change in gear ratio??
Also,I feel I need to claim credit for when I said that a shorter ratio could mean a third gear change before 100kph and hence a slower 0-100 time and it turns out to be true!

But the car is heavier isn't it? Couldnt that be why?

The article I read from one of the links above states the change to third as the reason why but I am sure the weight doesnt help.Owners of the new RX8 will have to lose 28kgs..

Available on Japanese domestic models since *gasp* **1984** Big Brother is Navigating ( George Orwell wrote the software )

A Japanese SAT NAV system now will voice prompt you ( choose a man, or womans voice ) to the nearest 7-11, 24 hour gas station, golf course, Hotel...

Input the 'phone number of your destination and the SAT NAV chooses the quickest route there...

"You are about to enter the Shuto expressway, move to the center lane...."

Japanparts site will introduce body kits and parts for the later Model as these happen; right now the earlier vehicle parts are ID'd as: "Before M/C" and the later RX8 will be "After M/C" as these are listed

fuel consumption is up, why did mazda say the new rx-8 is leaner? What does leaner refer to?

Is fuel consumption up? In the US the fuel rating has not changed, still 16/22.
