My plan for next track day

It was too wet at Sandown yesterday. The RE040 did not grip well. Probably it is a blessing that the tyre did not wear down that much.

I hate to think what will happen if I turn the traction control off yesterday. DSC saved my day yesterday.

I had fun, on the limit of the tyre.

I was thinking: If I keep doing track days, I maybe more benetifical to buy a set of rim and tyre for looks and keep my stock wheel with some semislick.

So my question is: What semislick do you guys know? How expensive are they?

Wheels and tyre and stock with semislick will be my next mod....

My semi-slicks are my 30,000 + old original tyres

If you are gunna get a different set of rims and tyres, why not get slicks?

I got Yokohama slicks on special from TyreTech for less money than semi-comps. They were 17" ones for the SS.

But the problem then with the 8 is you probly cant fit 4 spares and a jack in the car to take them to the track. So you might be better off with semi-comps and then you can change them at homeand drive to the track.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Well after a long thought... I am considering the following scenario:

1. Buy a set of S-03 and continue 3 track days a year.

2. Buy a set of S-03 and save money to buy a set of Volks and put the S-03 into the Volks and then buy a set of slick or semi slick to the stock rim.

3. Buy a set of cheap rims and slick.

How much roughly is slick and semi slick

I paid $300 a tyre for the 17" Yokohama Slicks, and 195 (?) a wheel for the extra set of rims.

You can pay close to $500 a tyre for semi-comps.

If you are doing it for track speed I'd say the semi-comps, unless you had a ute to go with you that can take the 4 track tyres, etc. A battery drill is good to help spin the wheel nuts

Cheers,
Hymee.

Sounds like a big project Hymee: Do I mean I have to buy a ute and a battery drill as well in your plan? :p

Well Slick + Wheel roughly = a set of semi slick. Is that a good assumption?

My slicks were cheap cause I got them on special. Normally there is not much price difference.

Here are some prices here. http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au Click "Services" "Dunlop Motorsport" then "View our stock list"

Hey Taka.

We're (the mx5 club) are heading down to sandown next Sat. If you're quick you could probably still get entry.

It would be great to see an 8 running with the 5s.

Have you been to Winton yet? Would be interested to know your times there.

We're doing about 1:35 at Sandown in the 1.6 on R rated tyres.

Slicks probably won't be "legal" at most CAMS level 2 days, Hymee.

Thanks for the offer ric. I will put a S-03 first.

EDIT: Never been anywhere with the 8 but interested to do it though.

Good advice. Thats cool.

I think most of the "Clubman" style stuff at QR is now with the AAA rather than CAMS.

Cheers,
Hymee.
