Mileage decreased with V-Power?

I've noticed the car's mileage worsen after putting V-Power in the car. Isnt V-Power the same as Optimax, just rebranded?

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Not really complaining, just noticed I cant do over 300km anymore on a fulltank as opposed to the 350 I used to get before - thats with 'spirited driving'.

Shell servos are hard to find too :\ so its more of an inconvenience thing.

Possibly cause due to ECU RECONFIGURING THE PARAMETERS OF THE NEW TYPE OF FUEL ?

I don't there is any difference. It is getting warmer this few weeks and it may be a factor.

The fuel itself (if you are having the V power racing) has a lower density and does give a worse mileage/tank. But I think it will balance off since there is less to fuel up.

My 0.02$, all unsubstantiated.

I dont know about that Michael. The guy @ the servo (co-owns the servo) I always fill up said its the exact same thing, just rebranded for marketing and global consistancy with their product name. The promotional brochures etc do say its improved. mhm

Taka, your heat factor makes sense.. but would it really make that much of a difference?

My friends are saying my ego has grown due to the new coilovers and I'm driving more spritidly than normal :P - hope its that and I get over it soon!

If my driving since fitting the MS gear is any guide, I'd say that's your cause.

hahaha =P makes me regret selling my Tein Flex's earlier on in the year! Should have kept them cos I ended up getting them anyway. Its not as soft as people say it is - I've had it on the hardest setting and its surprisingly ... hard lol.

Much stiffer than my friends S2k with the Tein Flex's as well. I guess you never know with these things until you actually put them on and try them yourself - which i never did.

Back to V-power..... (wish I had coilovers to speak about)

When I first filled up with it, I spoke to the guy at the servo - he said it was a re-formulation not just a name change. Aparently this formulation is supposed to reduce friction (whatever that means)

I still haven't used the whole tank but so far it looks like I will be getting much the same mileage.

Have a good one

This is a case for......Labrat!

(although it may be worth searching, as I am sure he has alread expounded extensively on fuel formulations, winter vs summer, 98 v 95 v 91, methanol, ethanol.... )

That's if you can get him away from extensive experimentation on his Fulda's (and no, that's not a euphemism).

Kunz, I spoke with one of the Chemists at Shell a few weeks back (our sons play [REAL] footy together). Its definately a change of formula.

I am sure that it is not worse, but I think that it might be slightly better.. It takes time to be sure about an improvement...

Awesome thanks guys. If my mileage issue continues, I'll try logging with scanalyzer to compare from previous logs. (after the NATS of course!)

I do mainly short runs - work is 10km from my home and I get about 260km to a tank. Last week I did a couple of longer runs, still through town but longer distances, 30-40km round trip. I got 350km out of that tank.

I got really excited as my car has 18,000kms on it now and I thought that might have been a magic "lean it out" number. But alas, this week 120km and I'm past half a tank already....

I've used every type of fuel and not noticed any significant difference between performance or consumption. E10 is a little harder to start the car, thats probably the only difference I've seen between any of the fuels - other than the prices!!

Hey Deano, can you give us all a report on the Lotus?

First impressions? Have you tracked it yet? Comparison to the RX8 for everything from performance to practicality?

All info gratefully received.
