Has anyone noticed how much money most of us are going to spend to improve on the RX8 ??

We can FI the 8, buy a spare engine for practically nothing and still be way ahead cost wise. Tough decision - I love my RX8 - its got a few interior squeaks which annoy me - but for me it is a very practicle, safe, sporty car.

If I go for the Lotus Exige S - I am probably going to have to keep the RX8 so I am back to having 4 cars in the garage.

The skyline would be unreal - but I prefer a RWD car.

 

Or you could swap to something like...er...a Polo GTI as a daily, then pick up a 2nd hand 8 at auction for $20k...and then really have some fun

Your plan kind of makes sense , you obviously miss the fun of the 8.

Deano, I have to agree with you in your praise for the F6 I test drove one (also owned a XR6Turbo), and the torque is really something else.
Its a big silky smooth very fast sedan and I really like it. However,Would I buy one? nope.

Other than the roller coaster like sprints to 100kmh i think the car is pretty uninvolving.
You dont feel like you are driving anything more than a hyper powered family car.

I Definately would go a Lotus when my income matches their price range. The purple is awesome!

 

My RX8 has the standard suspension, the F6 I drive as the Tein V8 super car suspension with computer adjustment. It would easily out handle the standard RX8.

I still can't see myself in an F6 - but at $55k + $6k for suspension it was *very* impressive. Equally impressive was the luggage capacity!

Fair enough, I havent driven one with tweaked suspension! Could be whole different kettle of fish

The latest issue of Motor has a review of the Exige S - sounds like a lot of fun.

In answer to a query, I'm told they got low 11's at Wakefield. Since most people struggle to go under 14's in even modified 8's, that should give you an indication of the track potential.

Interesting. Not sure about the rear end though - check out the shot on page 4 of that review - looks like a smile turned upside down! The rest looks pretty tasty but for AUS$200,000 plus taxes, etc, etc I think I'd rather have a 911 thanks.

And it is an Alfa - do they throw in rust proofing for the non-carbon bits?

Nup - ugly. The Lotus for hairdressers or those who prefer lap dances instead of the real thing.

If you want it for the track, get the Exige S.

If you want it for the street and the track, spend a little more and buy the Cayman.

 

I'd have the Alfa over a Porsche anyday.

Forget about the Europia or whatever the other Lotus is - it doesn't have the performance of the Exige S and I reckon they are ugly.

The Alfa is beautiful - I'd have one in a second but I don't reckon you'd get any change from $300k on the road. The pounds convert to $200k - add import duty, gst and luxury car tax and you'll be way out of my price range.

Like most Alfa's - great initial impact but their styling tends to date quicker than 3 day old milk. Have a look at the GTV and Spider models these days - almost embarrassing.

(sheesh - I hope Julia isn't reading this ).

Granted, from some angles it's a pretty thing, but from other angles it looks a bit forced and overdone. A little pumped up looking too IMHO. These things are all subjective though.

But $300K. That's nearly Porsche Turbo money fella! Sure you'd still have the Alfal assuming the Lotto ***** dropped your way???

 

I like the Porsche 911 AWD Turbo - I'd have one of those. I think you'd need more like $400k to get one of them on the road with some options though!! They are $300k +++

 

Alfas are (nearly) always beautiful...but always disappoint. And, as Rev says, on a quiet night you can hear them rusting. The words "Alfa" and "years of trouble-free driving" never appear in the same sentance except in the negative form

Ooh dear...am perhaps a tad judgemental today...but a colleague just managed to dump his 3yo 156 to an unsuspecting buyer. He had taken to leaving it in deserted carparks...unlocked!

 

The new TURBO 911 does it for me but the rest of the 911 series is boring IMHO

IF only the Aston Martin Vantage , handled drove as well as the 911 that would be nice .( i already have the plates AMV08 now all i need is the car

The ALFA IS INTERESTING BUT NOT FOR THOSE $$$$.

Alfas have not had a rusting problem for a long time but resale is **** and build quality is questionable .

go to brisbane porsche centre website and you can "customise" your porsches....
listen to the sound clip, its amazing

 

Rusting problem lessened, perhaps, but blistering paint on a 3yo car is not a good look
