Mad Midwinter Rotor Run - MMRR

3 Attachment(s)
Sunday 27th July

Start point is - 37 44 48.79 S 175 13 54.70 E at 9.00am

Go for Street View

Its time to start on another event and what could be better then a fun day out in the middle of winter.
We'll looking at the end of July for a day run around the central north island, starting in Hamilton.
I'm looking at running this event as a live setup, no bits of paper to look at, but you will need a smart phone or tablet etc, something with a GPS system anyway. My idea is to run it as a twitter feed, so you will probably need to have a twitter account.
I will give you a glue as to where you will have to go and it will be up to you to find your way there.
Now I know this sounds like a good way to get lost, but I will only give out enough info to get you all to the first point, and once everyone has made it to the meeting point, then the second glue will be given, and so on.
I've basically planned the route we will take and spoken to Brettus about it, and it looks like a good day drive.
So start planning and getting your car ready.

Rotaman

Things you will need on the day

1) Full tank of fuel
2) at least 2 people in your car
3) GPS based phone of tablet
4) Pen and paper to write down answers to questions
5) Apps you will need for your phone/tablet
- twitter account app
- Google earth or
- Google maps or
- Google navigation or
- something equivalent

voncreep 05-20-2014 05:22 AM

Count me in!!

Rotaman 05-20-2014 06:08 AM

The next thing we should start is a list of people coming.

I will also mention early on that you will probably need at least two people in the car for this event.
Obviously you will need a driver, and someone to help with navigation.
Have fun

probably will - yes

scotttnz 05-20-2014 09:18 PM

I'm keen.....but what is this "twitter" you speak of? ;)

We've just started the process to sell our house, so attendance will depend on where that is at, but unless we are moving that weekend we should be able to make it.

denmax 05-21-2014 12:39 AM

What do you think would be the total distance we would drive ? 200 ? 300 k's ?

Rotaman 05-21-2014 12:59 AM

Hi Scott, lets hope you can make it along.
As for this twitter, well I would like to run this event with no paper work, so I thought I would try and run it live via twitter, so I will give out a clue and that will hopefully get everybody to the first point, then another clue and so on. but I'm still looking into this side of things, if anyone can think of something better, I'm all ears.

denmax - the amount of ks? not sure at this stage, but I would work on one tank of gas, for me that would work out at around 400-450ks.

I will work on a date over the next few days.
Apps you will need on your phone or tablet at this stage will be a twitter account app and google earth or maps, either of the google apps will work.

Rotaman

nzmkey 05-21-2014 04:13 AM

Would like to come but have a baby coming in July. So it depend on date..

Rotaman 05-22-2014 03:25 AM

nzmkey, congrats on the new baby to be. what date is the baby due and I will try to make sure the event is not to close to that date.

Google navigation app will work fine as well.

Rotaman

Rotaman 05-26-2014 10:28 PM

Here are a couple of dates that could be worth looking at, so let me know which one of these is best for you all.
Either July 27th, or August 3rd. Both are Sundays.
At this stage we are looking to run the event wind, rain or snow with the exception of road closure. If in that case we will run a different route.
Start getting your cars ready.

Rotaman

Brettus 05-26-2014 11:21 PM

Either for me .
Got a bit to do on mine ............ hope all the parts arrive on time

8/ Stephen T-maybe (sorry I can't be more definite. )

poor_lackey 05-27-2014 01:58 AM

A bit early to add my name to the definitive list, but Ms _lackey sayz we are interested (and she always knows best);
assuming you make allowance slow middle age drivers with no reflexes and bad eye sight :eyetwitch
n it’s not cold or snowing on the desert road
n we can get time off work
n I don’t scare her with another one of those unfortunate ummm ‘senior’ moments, cornering in the wet.........

Rotaman 05-27-2014 04:57 AM

Poor_Lackey, I'm sure you will be fine, age and ability will have no bearing on this event. Its just a straight out fun event and a nice drive in the country.

For all those intending on coming along.
I have posted a tweet for you all to have a look at, so you can see where the starting point for the event is.
Let me know how you get on finding it.

Rotaman

poor_lackey 05-28-2014 02:44 AM

Looks like the police escort is already waiting for us :Eyecrazy:

I had to go and have another look to see what you meant, but yes you are right, we better be careful, no speeding in that area.

Rotaman

Drtysx 05-28-2014 09:26 PM

looks good! I'm still a maybe as I have a new born and my house build will be in full swing (the roof has just been finished now!) but am excited to see more updates!

Rotaman 05-31-2014 05:12 PM

Did everyone find the starting point?
Was there a preference for July 27 or August 3rd as a day for the event?

Rotaman

voncreep 06-01-2014 08:33 PM

Any day is good for me! I'm excited! Nice and close to my work, see you all there!

xcon 06-02-2014 04:11 PM

July 27 , please :)

drum-beats 06-02-2014 04:12 PM

I would prefer the August 3rd,
I have a drift event on July 27th,
Thanks

Rotaman 06-02-2014 04:43 PM

Well someone is going to be unhappy, so maybe Xcon and drum-beats can workout which weekend is the one we will go for.

The event setup is coming along well. I spent yesterday working on putting some of the event together. Some of the roads are looking pretty good with plenty of twisty bits.
I even managed to get my car out of the shed on Sunday and take it for a drive, first time since the street sprints.

Rotaman

drum-beats 06-02-2014 04:51 PM

If it suits everyone else, have it on the 27th,
The way I see it, Ill still be enjoying myself, no point in ruining it for Xcon,

Rotaman 06-02-2014 05:01 PM

I have updated the first post, so that everyone knows what they need to bring along on the day.

Shelby, thanks for posting this on the RX8 NZ facebook page, let hope we get some of them to come along.
And you are right in saying we need more females to get involved with these events.

So still no definite date yet then?

I got some more of the event written out today, so nearly half way through it now.

Rotaman 06-12-2014 01:14 AM

Just an update, I have booked a lunch stop, so all is coming along well.
Hope everyone is getting there car ready for a great day out.
I've updated the first post to show the coordinates for the start point and start time.
Although I may move the start time forward by half an hour.
Look out for anyone you may think could be interested in a good drive around the country, and see if they want to come along.

Here a couple of pictures of the prize for who ever gets the most questions right on the MMRR event.
We expect the winner to eat it all in one go.
I have changed the time start for the event to 9.00am, just to allow enough time for us to get to our lunch stop.
Hope everyone is getting ready, only 4 weeks to go.

That 10c may be a bit hard to pass.... :D

Rotaman 06-25-2014 05:39 AM

Don't forget everybody to add your phone to your twitter account for this event.
Go to your twitter page
Find settings along the top
Click on settings
Then click on the tab marked Mobile
Put your mobile or tablet number that you are going to use on the event in the necessary places and activate.
Then making sure your phone/tablet is on, text Go to the number listed on the twitter page.
Save Changes.

Now once you have activated your phone, you can go back to your twitter page on your computer and again find settings
Click on settings
Then click on the tab marked Mobile
Check the boxes next to Text notifications for each type of notification you would like enabled for your device.
Save Changes.

Now you should be able to receive tweets as a text message, which will make it easier for everyone on the day of the event.

Thanks
