LED & Stealth bulbs (56k beware!)

Can't remember who requested this, but I know it was someone in the Aussie forum, hence I'm posting this here...

Last weekend, fitted 9-LED brake lights, 6-LED white driving lights, stealth bulbs for front and rear indicators and reverse lights (reverse ones were removed as they were just too dim)

So, here's some pics... first, a before and after.

nice pics... that makes me want to change them now... but i thought they are ok to start with but I have doubts about changing them not looking as good.

I like the look of the brake 9 LED though.

wow man, this photos are great, especially the night shots! but can you explain a few things to me, 'cause i don't know much:
-what is this 'LED lights' you are reffering to? i've seen in the manual stating something about rear lights having LED technology, tried to find out what this means, but i kept scrathing my head ...
-the front driving lights are awesome! how can i do that? where can i find these 6-led bulbs?
-what are these 'stealth' bulb for the indicator? Can't see any difference in the pic (sorry i'm a noob:o)

Nice pics Pepe.

LED = Light Emitting Diode. A solid state electronic device that emits light. Like most of the front panel lights on your PC/Modem/Monitor/Printer etc. etc. etc...

So the rear's are those cluster of 9 in the center of each stoplight - yeah?

The stealth bulb - is it not LED? It seems a lot brighter than the driving light. If it is place of indicators, why are they both on?

And the driving light - is it now not functionally a driving light in the traditional sense?

I'm really interested. BTW - are these a generic item, or RX-8 specific? It wasn't obvious where you sourced them.

How is the brake lights illumination intensity compare with stock or other bright lights like the Philips Blue vision --- that is what I am planning to use but the look of the LED looks good in the rear brake light.

Have a look at the shealth bulb site... Can I be a shealth model :D?

The rear 9LEDs are more intense, but not blindingly so, you certainly notice them more than the standard ones...

The stealth bulb bits are just basically normal 7440/7443 bulbs dipped in chrome tint me thinks... hence they lose intensity, I can cop that on the indicators, but the reverse ones, I use to judge when I back my car into my garage, so didn't want to risk reversing into the wall (again!).

I'll dig up the URL for the site I got them from, it's not from the site listed above though, they are like 30-40 $US a pair there... I got 2 pairs of indictator bulbs, a pair of reverse bulbs, the brake LEDs, driving light LEDs and H9 ultra white high beams (which didn't end up fitting )... all that for $60US delivered, priority mail (ordered on a Thurs night Aus time, arrived Tuesday morning) from Arizona.

OK - I get it - silver bulbs with amber glow.

The photo on their site makes it look like the reflectors are amber. I looked at mine, and they are silver, but do reflect the amber colour of the unlit bulb when viewed from the right angle.

OK - The parking light (not driving light) is replaced with a cluster of 6 white LED's. Cool.

So, what is this photo showing me???

Parking = Driving... too many beers while posting

The stockers, when lit up, especially when compared to the Xenon bulbs, are very yellow... these are pretty much pure white The also concentrate the light in the centre, rather than the all around glow you get from the stockers. The stealth bulbs are pretty subtle... most of the time, you wouldn't know it, but from some angles, the light catches the bulbs and the corners look a lot more orange.

I'm still confused.

The bright lights in the photo I linked in my last post - (the ones directly inboard of the stealth indicators) - They are the normal headlights (projector) on my xenon-less car, and the main beams are the next bulbs in (non-projector), then the parking lights (projector).

But you didn't mention any change there (headlights), but 2 different photo's show those lights behaving differently .

The only ones changed in the front are the indicators and parking lights.

Indicators aren't lit in any shot, but this one shows one of them, it's in the part of the light and kind of hidden a bit by the silver "fin" type thing, plus it's glary, plus, well, it's supposed to be a stealth bulb, you're not really supposed to see it now are you



The other ones in the front, are the 6LED parking lights(formerly driving lights ). They are the little white ones on the inner most section of the light fittings here. By default, these are a fairly dim, yellow/orange colour, especially when compared with the xenon bulbs, but they are now very nice indeed Any change in the headlights is just the camera playing tricks, those weren't changed at all and the xenon does tend to look a bit different from different angles.



On another note, I put two of these light fittings in my apartment earlier this year... was only after I bought them I wondered if I was becoming (subconciously) a little too rotary obsessed?

Pepe, do you find the LED much dimmer than the normal globe. I use the Philip Blue vision W5W instead because the one that LED I am able to find is not bright enough.

How about the other like the W21/5W for your brake/tail light. Do you find it being dimmer than original?

Autolumination.com has a lot of style LED offer in #7443 (W21/5W) for the brake/tail light. Which one is good? Do you think more LED is better? there is a 15 LED

Park light is found under the bonnet at the very side. A light long thing. Take it out by twisting anticlockwise. The battery line may obstruct your progress on one side and take it off.

The LED bulbs are very bright, you'll have no probs with those. The silver "stealth" bulbs are reasonably dim... I took the reversing ones out because they were just too dim, but kept the indicator ones in. That's also the website I got them from, very good service, although, think twice about ordering the silver bulbs...

Oh, and I got the 9 LED rear lights, the 15s weren't available at the time, but I think the 9s work fine. Got the 6LED front lights too.

I have seeing the rating of the LEDs...

so you think the 9 LED you have is brighter than stock?
That gives me a reference of what to get...

Thanks for the help Taka, I can get one side off no problems (the left one), but the drivers side one is bloody hard, I still havent got it out , there's no space there at all!!! is it easier to go thru the wheel guard? I tried it on the left side, but you can't really get to the parking lights. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you read the manual, it says to go in through the under side of the guard. To get the drivers side one off, I had to take off the turtleshell engine cover, battery cover and ECU cover.
