King Springs

King Springs
So i'm toying with the idea of changing out the stock springs on my 8.
I am really after something that will lower the car as low as possible without being impractical and am not fussed about performance too much.
I decided after reading a few threads on it that the King Springs are probabaly the most economical way to go about doing this.
Will it be a problem that I am leaving in the stock shocks? Or should I invest in coilovers or maybe the Mazdaspeed Spring/Shock set?
I really prefer just to add the Kings and leave the shocks stock since I never track my car nor am I a real nut about getting 110% out of my car.

Short term No
Long term Yes.
Short term - u'll find ride to be harsher with stock shocks and king springs also as oppose to changin to match the shocks wit the springs
The kings would be the lowest u could go. they drop you about 45-50mm from standard and you'll still be legal. just be ready for a slight bumpier ride And before any of you decide to criticise me, I actually had kings superlows on the 8..........

just a heads-up...
k-mac will do "any drop" for you.
tempe tyres, ozzy tyres will be able to organise it for you.
do the springs first if you are on a budget, otherwise get a set of koni yellows.
missy had the kings and konis, IMO it is "liveable" on most dodgy sydney roads.... her new setup are a little bit more comfortable... but more 4WD-ish

I have Kall's old set up now (superlow kings and adjustable konis).
It needs adjustment from the slightly aggressive setting by the Tyrepower boys but I'm letting it grow on me first before playing around with it. It's definitely firmer and slightly harsher but it took 2 weeks for my g/f to notice! Gives better steering response and a more immediate feel, which I like, but unless you really want to reap the benefit on the track or in some spirited twisties you might decide that the slight loss of around-town comfort's not worth it.
I did it partly for the lowered look anyway (it's hot although I think it's more like 35-40mm drop, not 45-50, Kall) and of course you couldn't lower it and retain the OEM ride characteristic anyway - inevitably need firmer springs for less travel.
Ezzy's set up looks lower than mine although his 20s might emphasise that a bit.

Today I added Selby sway bars (identical to Whiteline) and so far the ride improvement is significant - feels more solid and less jumpy on the bumps, than with the kings/konis alone. Limited test environment so far (city streets!) but steering feel is sharper too.
I reckon anyone lowering as above should probably add sways as well...

Andrew, have you thought about just getting sways first? You might find they deliver what you're looking for without going the extra step, and expense, of coilovers.
Have to say the Whitelines made a big difference for me. I'm only looking at further suspension upgrades now because I'm getting bored and want to see what difference it will make (and I guess to lower it a little for looks ).

^^ I tend to agree Andrew - the only reason I spent on the shocks was because I got Kall's king springs cheep (sounds like the noise a canary makes LOL)

Although it's always tempting to go straight for the full-house suspension mod, this might free up your budget for other stuff.
Keep me posted.
I'm still umming and ahhing over what to get. No rush.
