Smoothy can probably comment best on this topic. I think the southern prices are quite expensive because of theft risks.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Shannon's about $1k with choice of repairer, and they are not too fussed if it goes on the track occasionally either ...

I'm 26, through Allianz, round $1400...Rating 1. If under 25, excess jumps another $500...

Shop around and even call the same mob 2-3 times for a price. It depends on who you get on the phone.

On a side issue, look at uncommon insurance companies and I don't mean backyarders. It is common for an insurance company to increase the premium price, sometimes dramatically, not because you're young, inexperienced etc, but because they have too much market share. They figure they will get the odd pidgon and this will be enough to cover any losses. After all, the more cars an insurance company covers, the higher the probability of a crash involving more than one of their cars.

you can also see a big difference in price between regions. the AAMI prices can vary $500 with rating 1 NCB and similar drivers age.

When i asked why is Insurence so expensive for an non turbo car i was told :

Suburb it gets parked in ( I dont actually think there is wrong with my suburb but obviously some older cars have been reported stolen or something )

Age of driver
Road History of driver.
Market price of company on that day.

AAMI would not insure me Justcars wanted $4500.

Apparently i pay an extra 600 because of my post code.

Cant wait till im 25

Regards
Phillip

**edit** forgot to mention that it would be extra 900 if i got the leather pack **edit**

i am 18..... and most bigger companies over here wont insure sports car for under 25's.

SGIO for me was around 5000, and JustCars slightly under it, but no major diff.

might insure it with parents name and pay the high excess (~1200)

$495 :D AAMI

I'm 35, a few points on the license (until June when they come off again), max no claims, Northern Beeches (garaged), my wife (29) is included.

It's up for renewal in August so it will be interesting to see what AAMI offer me when they send the renewal letter.

Insured thru the lease company with Willis Aust....$1400 Rating 1, pov pac, 1 ticket last five years (65 in 60 zone), 39yo inner eastern suburb....

The main insurers AAMI, RACV/NRMA, even tried Suncorp, all about this mark for me....Shannons, dearer...as an "enthusiasts" insurer, Shannons like to know that you sleep with the car and can quote the casting nubber on the extension housing (to ensure you're the real deal) before you can get a decent price out of them...

Just car quoted around $6000

I think it was CGU didnt even have the RX8 listed.

No other company would insure me.

Its going to be hell if i find a turbo kit for the 8.

Hey Ric, It doesn't really matter what we pay..........the moment you put your occupation down on the application form, the premium will start spinning up like a poker machine reel!!!!!!

the comment on what suburb you put down as the residence the car will be at is the key, age is a high factor after that, your driving history is only factored in as a matter of fact, so be general about it and just glaze over any crap even if you've had a crash here or there, don't get into too much detail on it as it's not relevant - it's just statistica analysis leveraging their underwriting risk etc etc..

You can't use a postbox to your advantage either, they want your residence regardless, and if you fake any basic field on the forms etc, and they find out or can prove it, you void everything.

don't take the cheap options if you don't have to as the cheaper the policy the higher the risk the insurer is going to make a higher than usual effort to not pay out.

for a $74k car, $1,600 was the average I could find for compehensive et al and that include an anual windscreen replacement and a few other bits here and there.

like any statiscally weighted gamble, play the odds - go the middle of the road.

Dez,

Great to see you back on the board again.

I hate to be a pedantic pr!ck, but didn't you just contradict yourself. I would strongly suggest that you are entirely accurate on your insurance application... I wouldn't give the bastards any possible chance for an out.

Smoothy - can you comment on this (unofficially of course)

sco.
